Laps of Lowes Motor Speedway!!
« on: April 25, 2009, 04:10:19 PM »
Rode with about 350 bikes today in a charity event. Midpoint rest was a stop at Lowe's Motor Speedway where they broke us up into groups to ride three laps.

Motorcycle cop was injured by a person pulling out of a driveway on the way there, Hope he recovers well.

Sirens and lights not enough to get her attention...anyone for a loud pipes saves lives comments?  Keep your head on a swivel and never assume they know you are there. Just saying.

I was in the first group to get our laps, we got to lay back in turns one and two then blast down the back straight into 3 & 4 I managed to do 95+.  The old CB was pretty impressive (to me anyway).  Had a few guys come up after the laps to see how old it really was.. ;D

One other SOHC 750 there, a nice pearl white 1976 F with 61,500 miles.  Tried to connect with him several times but could not find him, just the bike.

Thanks again to all here that posted information to help me get the CB in shape to run like that, I know I could have hat it a little faster if they did not have that pesky pace car.

The groups after us got full lap escorts with seven or eight police...It's the luck of the draw!

Fun.

With omrra, out at PIR, they do TOR (Taste of Racing), during which you can go out and do a few laps. Only rules are no passing on the inside of turns, and don't pass the front control rider. That's ok though, because I've personally seen the control rider hit about 160 on the front straight. Seen some of the guys out for TOR hit pretty close to the same speed.

Supposedly I'll be a control rider next season, after I get my racing license for OMRRA.

Glad you had fun, Mark.
No.

I have never driven a bike capable of 160. My '66 Bonnie 800cc bore kit would do an indicated 125.  My '71 500four maxed out at 105.

160 could be fun.

I think I did 130 on my cb750. Did somewhere between 135 and 140 on my race r75/5.

You're kinda far from Portland to come out and run wide open at PIR, but maybe your local race club has something like TOR?
No.
