for the life of me i don't know who makes them (chinese?) but i recognize the honda rip off motor as being chinese. they make about 15-17 hp and the bike weighs in around 200lbs. i think.

the name of the brand i think is 5150 (dumb) but i picked up another name from somewhere else and can't recall it just now. there's a dealership network too. i'll find and post it. the place here in ma sells them (200cc) for about 2k+ and will deliver it to my door. those bastards!

when you get it you submit a request for a copy of the manufacturer of origin papers (to title it) when you do the warranty papers i understand.

i've seen one with a bigger "real motorcycle" engine too. gerhed's thumper project had me thinking...

but frankly i'd keep it as is.

That's pretty neat for 2 grand, as long as it's fairly easy to register and title. Nice and low, and just big enough to squirt across town with. Think the cb/cm 400 twin would fit? Or an old 2-stroke triple? (with suicide shift) :o

Seriously, a nice thumper of 500cc's or greater, or a good twin engine would prolly  make for a fine little rigid bike.

my only concern about going big cc's would be stress to the frame.

It's a tiny frame, but twins and thumpers are pretty light, and this isn't exactly a canyon carver.

other than the # of cylinders, does anyone know anything about this motor?

or how about the seemingly unloved cb360?

yeah, double the hp of the chinese honda 200cc. but as you said any large thumper or twin would be a lotta grins. i'm really liking gerheds cb/moto hybrid.

i like using 'hybrid' in any situation NOT talking about the holier than thou political statements found in a college town near you. (i'm such a jerk)

what do you think the weight difference might be between the 200cc and say a common one lung?

Is it just me or does anyone else think this just looks silly?  Maybe a notch above the mini-cycle fad from a few years ago.  I can understand a Vespa, it's not trying to be anything else and there is a certain Italian chic about it, but this?   I think if you pulled up to the bar with this they would laugh you out of the place.  And as for the questionable Chinese quality control
who knows what kind of PCB laced material the seat and hand grips are made from.  I wouldn't give $500 for one.

Reminds me of an old joke.  What do a fat girl and a moped have in common?  They are both fun to ride but you don't want to let your friends see you doing it. ;D

Before my accident, I could pick up a cb350 engine pretty handily, so they can't weigh too much. Less than a hundred pounds, for sure. Probably closer to 85 or 90.

that seems reasonable. the 200cc can't be more than 60 pounds then? total shot in the dark, i have no idea. but it sorta puts it in perspective; if a thumper or twin can put out around 35-45 hp or so, the weight increase is clearly off set by the gain in power. my buddy just sold a kawasaki 750 twin parts bike. that may be too heavy with the balance shaft and displacement though. ah... pipe dreaming is fun.

these things apparently are huge now. but, judging by the you tube and sites, a few of these guys take it way too seriously. i think they're pretty cool, but come on homies, leave the chain wallet and jessie james hat at home.  ;D

i'd get one in a second and paint it anything but black.
