Genetic drive is primarily a "get my particular genes out there as much as possible", but the larger, wider sweeping urge is "get my species out there as much as possible".
I don't think we are talking about the same thing...Brian Keene is the author. I've heard that they were thinking of making a movie out of the books, but it surely hasn't been done yet.I did read WWZ by Brooks. It was good too. I think it's going to be a movie also.
