Fisher Cats
« on: April 26, 2009, 01:28:24 PM »
i live in western massachusetts and the population (of fc's) has been growing from what i read. my friend's cat has been missing for two weeks and fear that either a fisher cat, fox, or the increasingly prevalent coyote got him. i was so restless yesterday i went cat corpse hunting in the woods for two hours, also looking for fisher dens in trees with my knife. i was a bit angry.

he was/ is an awesome cat and i miss him a bunch. he may have just taken off due to jealousy of a new cat in the house.  anyway, i have searched the interweb vigorously and come up with no audio of confirmed fisher cat. often it's unidentified or obviously the recording of a fox.

can anyone point me to where i might find audio? just outta curiosity really.

Rigo (ree-go) the cat.

Dude, are you sure you want to go out hunting a relative of weasels, badgers and wolverines that can weigh up to 20 lbs with a freakin knife?

Best of luck on that one, bro. That's like takin on a bobcat with a billyclub. I doubt you'd get close enough to one with a knife to actually stab it, and if you did, I'd reckon you might lose a finger. Or hand. Or arm.

Cats are cute, too. When one attacks you though, you either have to run screaming like a little girl or try to kill it.
Multiply that by about 10, and you have Fisher Cats and their cousins.

yeah, i went into the woods looking for a cat skull/remains or something. a long shot for sure. i know about their nastiness; my sister told me about a story she read where some guy was mowing his law and as he went back and forth, rounding another pass near a tree where a 'cat slept. the thing got pi$$ed and come the next pass the thing jumped onto him and tore him up good. frankly, if i saw one my badass would have leaked down one leg. the only time i'd take one on is to save another animal or in self defense. my big rambo knife got stolen outta my friend's toyota land cruiser.  >:(

i saw that site caaveman but i think those sounds might not be it. experienced people tell me they sound exactly like a child being skinned alive.

i didn't ask how they knew that sound.

Bobcat, viper? Lots of things could have gotten your kitty. Hard to say.

i was pissed. i've broken up nasty dog fights before, and familiar with bloody primal fights (no, never married) but realize a fisher, etc... is to be respected.

where i live i figure fisher, coyote, and yeah, bobcat. fox... maybe.

i've seen coyote about a couple of miles from where i live, and bobcat a bit closer. i'm glad i didn't meet up with a coyote in them woods.

i just hope if rigo went that way, that it was quick.

Craziest animal fight ever...

Serial killers at least have a method to the madness and a lot of times it's because they think they are helping society out. If only we could get a few of those that were not mentally deranged and were actually killing the scum bags, we'd be set. A few Dexters running around, hell yes.

i remember that episode! note the green paint washing off on the bear's mouth? high grade tv there.

what gets me is when i read or hear people curse the fisher cat and wish them all dead, then continue to let their replacement cats out. what @$$holes.

looking for audio, i just read on some forum where the person complained this was happening, then mentioned their most recent cat just the previous night getting killed by one. wtf people?!

I was reading a book about Captain Cook or it may have been a book about the Mutiny on the Bounty and it referred to the natives of what is now Tonga as being fierce cannibals at that time.  With some perverse sense of humor these islands where know as the Friendly Archipelago and the native term for the victims translated as "long pig".  :o
