CB550 carb balancing result
« on: April 27, 2009, 09:33:55 AM »
When I stripped my carbs for my 550K3 down last year I set the balancing up with a feeler gauge so that all 4 butterflies where exactly the same amount open, thinking this would be a good starting point.

Last week I hooked up a set of vacuum gauges to set them up exactly. All were identical and there was no need to adjust any. To double check I did adjust one and immediately it showed on the gauge so I put it back where it was originally.

Was I just lucky or is this a fairly safe way of doing it with feeler gauges?

I think that's the accepted way to bench set them.

Indeed you are powerful.

Nicely done, lucky bugger!   ;D ;D

I share your experience. Over the years I've benchsynced my carbs three times and when checked afterwards, difference in vacuum was never over 2 cm Hg. That's well within spec. I haven't used my set of manometers ever since.
Eh... butterflies ???
