I saw something in a post about filing fin tips. What is this? why do it? what are the advantages? how is it done?

It's an appearance thing. You file the tips of the fins flat, then paint, then polish the flat ends of the fins.

Someone once pried mine apart with a screwdriver chipping the edges. And I like the look.

it decreases air resistance over the stock rough fins, kinda like rim tape on sportbikes
