Problems??
« on: April 26, 2009, 12:27:33 AM »
Does anybody see any problems with the way everything is laid out here?  I had to modify this area a little to get the coil to fit in there.  I'm trying to find a better place for the rectifier.  Does that bolt going thru the rectifier have to be touching metal or ground??  If I make a mounting bracket for the rectifier would there be a problem with it there.  From what I know they get pretty hot.  Any suggestions?? Thanks

Lots of chances of getting a rubbed through lead with all that coiled up like that, I would def earth the rectifier.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Looks like your going with the Cycle-X ignition kit. What plug wires are you using?

I'm using the same ignition. Here's a picture of the mounting plate I made up for it to put the coils in the stock area:

Now I just need two frame clamps to hold it to the frame rails and it's done.

that looks nice and clean ;D
I was gonna put the coil in the stock position and still might if I don't like it under the sidecover.  My main reason was to keep the coil away from all the engine heat.
I went to napa and got universal 4 cylinder spark plug wires.  From when I talked to Ken at cyclex he said to go to an auto store and get some wires for a 4 cylinder that would be long enough and cut the boots off and install the ngk resistor boots(supplied with ign kit), then I'd be good to go.  I think all automotive spark plug wires are carbon core which according to the instructions are what is supposed to be used.  If I have this wrong please let me know, I haven't tried to start the bike yet and don't want to possibly kill my ignition before I get to use it.

I moved the recitfier to the front of the battery box.  I made a bracket to mount if off the front, actually turned out pretty nice.
