What a loss for the SOHC community.

I hope the best for his family in this time of loss.

not trying to be the rubber necker here but just curious if there is more info on the accident.

i should say that i'm not simply curious... i just want to know about fault and if anything could have been done to avoid the situation.
basically, analysis for our own benefit... we all carry the same risks every time we swing a leg over.

we had a local death as well, last week (she has attended our annual "old Bike Ride")... 50'something woman was mowed down by an inattentive car driver.  actually, it was two riders on two separate bikes... just the one death, but an entirely unnecessary situation.

I met Axl for the first time during the first WER, That must have been the year 1997. He picked me up at my place, he had the Black Seeley these days. The WER was a bit of an experience these days, not many people showed up. After that year's WER Axl and I drove home, and we had few hours talk of non-HONDA stuff, more persaonal things, in my backyard.

A few years later we again met, also during the WER, but I don't recall the exact year. We had a great weekend at the Franchorchamps campingsite of eau rouge. I remember Axl helping to resolve a broken drive chain issue at the Nuernburgring area, on sunday.

The last time I met him, was at the same event, which took place at Dieter Jocks' place at the Mosel area in Luxemburg.
That is where I met Mickey (of whom I am not sure became his spouse).

We had a good meal, many good conversations, and above all al lot of good laughs.

That is the way I will remember you Axl.

Is anyone capable of saving Axle's site?  I'd hate to see all the knowledge he worked for disappear now that he is no longer able to pay to host it.  Perhaps it could be copied and hosted in it's entirety here at the SOHC FAQ section or something?

WER =Western European Ride.

The Francochamps weekend was August 2002. Where I first met Axl in person (had known him online for a few years).

As requested by Heffay:

For those who can read German

http://www.merkur-online.de/lokales/nachrichten/germeringer-stirbt-motorradunfall-242191.html

Translation kindly provided by Nippon (Thomas):

Axl died by a 17-year old motorcyclist. Axl had the right of way and the young guy took it.
Axl's head hit the engine block of other small motorcycle. He always used a full face helmet.
He died at the place where it happend at 7 pm. The police said, that the sun stood deep and this could be a reason, too.

Rene, welcome, long time no see. Sad it has to be under these conditions.
After 2002 that Axl and I had many more WER. I was about to organise the next one.

sounds like a good idea to me. beyond practical reasons it would be a nice gesture, sentimentally speaking.

Thanks BobbyR, that's going on my shed wall above my bikes.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I am saddened and shocked to hear of the passing of my ole mate AXL.
I have known him for many years, we used to corrospond about CB750's all the time in the early stages of me moving here to the USA.
He was always so helpful, so cool and never would want anything in return.
The world is now missing a very cool and honest person, but Heaven is better for it.

My heart goes out to all the famil and his friends, I truely am a loss for words, and shall take this moment to say a few words at home for him.
I thank you Axl, for all the help and insperation you have given me to be a better person and, to enjoy my life of Motorcycling.

Peace and rest.
Carpy

I never met the man.  He seems to have touched a lot of people.
I would be up for a PM regarding free storage of his site or what might be needed to continue a free flow of information. :)

At this point, things are kind of in limbo.  It takes a while to get authorization to gain access to the site host and domain administration.  Someone close to the family is working on this, but the last news I had was in mid-May.  There is also someone in Germany interested in taking over the sites - which has to happen to preserve his .de site, but if they take the .org site too, that is fine as long as someone keeps Axl's work online.  You can find some of Axl's other sites at www.axl.org - the Easy Rider trip site is really interesting in the SOHC/4 vein as is the image gallery from the Bikers Classics 2008 in Spa Francorchamps.

I am devastated.  I have been friends with Axl for years, yet I only just now found out about our great loss.  The world is not the same place without him.  Thank you Axl for giving so much, for good council, good friendship and good bikes.  God have mercy on us and the whole world.

In love,
