Starter/light cuttoff solution
« on: April 11, 2006, 01:55:06 PM »
This is my solution to when my starter button/headlight cutoff totally disintegrated in the twist grip. The new Honda part is about $100.00. Of course, I didn't want to spend that much, so I ordered a used part out of a place in Oregon (Jeff's Cycles..don't EVER go there!) They sent me a broken part, worse than the one I have on the bike. and haven't returned my calls...36.00, no refund.. I reported them to the Federal Trade comission..
So a friend and I decided to become master fabricators.
We needed metal..found some old Aluminum Ice Cube trays...perfect! Spent another $28.00 on switches...Found the wires in the headlight rats nest, disconnected them from the grip wires in case I ever decide to go original (The bike IS 30 years old!)...then we built the "Dashboard" and mounted it under the instruments...painted with matte rustoleum, it doesn't look too bad! I then put a lighted toggle in the top of the headlight for the headlight. I actually think the headlight ia brighter now, and it stays on!
I spent almost as much as the new part, but at least My starter and healight work now!

Good job.
Part of the fun of these bikes is every owner can try their best at becomming a "fabricator"  ;D
I did something similar, but I mounted my starter button in the left sidecover, next to the
ign. switch. I wanted it out of the way, and out of sight..
