another masterpeice from Mike Rieck
« on: April 28, 2009, 10:19:53 AM »
Well guys take a look

I know its not a SOHC head but

Mike knows a thing or two about GS Suzuki's also and he has a SOHC head of mine that's
next in line to do his magic on.

This head is off of a GS850 and its going on my GS750/840 Caferacer

The nice thing about the 850 head is that the intake ports in stock trim are 33mm compared
to the 750 head which are 29mm.

As you will see in the pictures I can now run my 33mm Mikuni flat slides verses the 29mm CRs that I use to run
as well as the old 29mm smooth bores from Mikuni.

Mikes work is absolutely the best I have seen to date and if this head preforms like we think it will
Mike said this should be good for around a  12 to 15 Hp gain.
But it looks are worth HP then this baby has 1000 in it already
Just about to nice to put it on and start it up
I dont wont to get the domes  dirty..........................(yeah right)

So this is what he did.

Mike rieck stage 3 porting

Heavy springs with Titanium keepers from Kibblewhite

Cams are a 390 lift

side note:
we decided to run shim under the bucket's for protection against spitting a shim and reining all the nice
port work

The valves where left stock as Mike decided that these where big enough in stock form

Bronze guides

The head was shaved .010 to make sure it was nice and flat.

I hope the pictures can atleast give you an idea of the yop shelf work that mike can do

I will have dyno comparisons from stock head (about 62 Hp) to this on as soon as I can

enjoy the pictures and thanks again Mike

I had a peek at your head recently (looks better in person) and have an idea how much time he spends on these jobs.

They aren't finished until Mike is happy...and Mike isn't happy until the job is right, period.

VERY NICE!! It is always nice to see someone take pride in their work, seems so rare these days.

Were the ports originally semi D shaped at the bottom - and if not, can you explain the reasons for making it so?

Also I am interested in comments regarding the ridge from the top of the port to the valve guide.  What led you to this particular shape and how would this differ on a stage 1 or stage 2 job?
