If your using the original switch check the white plastic part on the back/bottom. Those just snap on and mine came off causing a similar issue. I used epoxy to hold it place.

Yes, mine is the original switch.  I'll give your "fix" a try.  Thanks, brandEn.

I didn't get a chance to swap out the ignition switch today.  I was too busy riding the K7 for the first time in 4 years!  It was a blast.  I took it easy, since the motor was just broken in on the dyno, but had fun riding it for about 100-120 miles.

The front end is much improved from the stock CB750.  The GL1000 forks combined with the more robust DCC upper triple and the Telefix fork brace provide much more stability through the turns, and the GL1000 brakes seemed to be getting better as I scrubbed them in.

Here are some photos of the bike near the closed MCAS Tustin blimp hangers:

Some video of the exhaust

Did you support the back off the pipe to the passenger peg mounts?

exhaust sounds great.

Exactly.  We welded an almost invisible bracket that bolts right to the peg mounts.  I originally built the bike with 2 up riding as an option.  That's why I chose a soft padded speed hump for seat, and I did not cut off the passenger peg mounts.  My better half is not a big fan of riding on the back so I'm planning to replace the seat with something more aesthetically pleasing to me.

Some additional pictures of the bike.  What a great weekend for riding.  I wanted to get some more saddle time before I get back to working on the bike to finish it.  Next up, the seat swap and fender, then if the weather gets cold (below 60), I will send the headers out for ceramic coating.  I also need to work out some electrical gremlins -- the headlight is not working but the bike is charging fine.

One of the annoying details to take care of.  The gas tank lid was mounted slightly to low to the hinge, so that it was rubbing and cracked the paint on the hinge.  I'm having Bondo respray it, since he's also working on the fender and seat.

Stainless only looks good bare for so long, then it starts discoloring.  You can start to see the yellowing of the metal, after the bike was broken in on the dyno and tuned.  The ceramic will keep a consistent finish.  I suppose I could ceramic coat them a metal finish, but I think I am going to go with a black satin akin to my first pipes.

Thanks, Vincent.  It has a bit of pop/backfire on deceleration/engine braking, but it sounds really good, especially when you go above 4000 rpm as you begin going into the sweet spot.

Most likely, I will take the pipe to Embee Performance in Santa Ana.  (http://www.embeeperformance.com/)  They have a great selection of finishes and they seem to do a solid job.

I guess I can't leave well enough alone.  I committed on changing the seat.  I'm swapping out the bigger seat built on my stock pan for a beautiful sheet metal seat fabricated by Ian Halcott of Cafe Seat and Tank/House on Fire Industries.  I got her mocked up today.  My tank needs a repair on the flip cap, so I also decided to add some silver pin-striping to highlight the knee dents.  I'm also going to bob the 1978 CB750F fender so it is not so long.  The seat, tank and fender will carry over the same paint -- house black with some ghosted ice-pearl checkers.  Here's a picture of the mock up:

Don-

Good choice on the seat/tail. I think that proportionally it's more in keeping with the rest of the bike. The other setup was kind of bulbous, but this one has a good 70's race bike look. Very cool.

Agreed. New seat continues similar proportions and lines as the tank. Also looks more agressive or as Vincent mentioned=70's race bike. It's a better fit sir. Kinda dig the raw steel look though. Lol i'd clear it, or punch out another in alloy. Hahaha.

Vincent, Cam and Jordan,

Thanks for the thumbs up.

I think the new seat's size fits the proportions of the rest of the bike better than my old seat using the stock pan. I'm also bobbing the fender in keeping with the rest of the bike. The paint work should be finished in a out two weeks. I will have to ride my RC51 until then.

Off topic: I just saw the new BMW Nine-T at Roland Sands Design today.  Brand new model, not yet on the market, but RSD has developed some trick parts for it.

That tail section looks much better.
I have met Ian before, he used to own Twinline up here in Seattle. Only met him once but he seemed like a cool dude and he loves old bikes. Those metal tail sections he makes are great quality.
