the comment about "cheap looking" was meant only to describe the plastic. Everything else on your bike is billet; hence the Rizoma reservoir comment. I love the Joker stuff too. Used it on my 550.

Not sure which is more expensive, Joker or Rizoma?!?!?! They are both beautiful product lines

I appreciate the comments and I "got" what you meant. :) I was just saying that I wish Brembo wasn't so damn expensive for plastic. Brembo is pricey but so is Rizoma, which has a more stylized design, so maybe I'll look into it later.

The Brembo reservoir and bracket is about $40-50.  The Rizoma bracket is about $50 and the billet reservoir is $80!!!!  YIKES!!!

Looking good Ron.  I actually like the Brembo set up as is on this build, sometimes less is more.  You already got a bunch going on in the controls section with the digital gauge and Joker bits.  Did you get my PM regarding your trip up to the PNW?

Thanks for the PM. I'm not sure if the better half wants to venture down to Tacoma, but I am definitely visiting Twinline and hoping to meet up with David - weather permitting I might even hear those maya phones on his Super Sport. The EMP museum looks cool too. If you can travel north, I'm planning to hit Twinline in the late morning.

in my honest and blunt opinion you went from trashy to classy. can't stop going over your build. what gauge is that and how are you making it work with the existing electrical system? I want to go digital but I run a pamco, not a dyna so I am unsure how to tap into the coils etc? has me a little lost

Hi Chef,

I truly appreciate the good words.

The digital gauge is an Acewell 3962.  The tach is a plug and play when using a Dyna 2000 (which has a tach output and rev limiter).  I'm not sure how to make it work with the Pamco systems, but I am SURE someone here has done it.  Dime City also sells Acewell gauges, so I'm sure there is a universal solution for a Pamco or even points, to get a read off of the coils.  The speedometer no longer uses the mechanical drive wire and now has a magnetic sensor which you can mount to the wheel hub/brake disc and fork leg (measuring revolutions).

ok yeah that's what I was afraid of. I may contact Pete and see what he says about it. I want to give my 78F a modern look and the dash is a great place to do it! that's cool to know about the speedo being magnetic. I will research more about it, I have been eyeballing a lot of digital gauges and such. thanks brother!

Took the weekend off from my projects to ride the Pines to Palms Highway 74.  300 miles roundtrip, from San Juan Capistrano on the twisties of Ortega Hwy to Lake Elsinore, past desolate Perris and Hemet, up into the twisties to Mountain Center through the pines and then down the mountain twisties to Palm Desert -- then we slabbed it back home on the freeways.  A great, challenging ride.

There were 7 bikes on the ride: Kawasaki Z1000, Honda CBR1000RR, Honda RC51 (mine), Yamaha R1, 2 x Yamaha FZ1 and a Suzuki V-Strom.  I do not normally ride in such a large group, but it was my buddy's birthday, and we have all riden together before so we know what to expect from each other.  I'm hoping that my new upcoming build (http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=132734.0) will be more equipped to keep up with these modern bikes.

If you live in Southern California, this ride is worth the (5-6) hours with a breakfast break.  Not as crowded as Angeles Crest or Palomar Mountain, and still challenging and fun.

Unfortunately or fortunately, it will be another weekend not working on the 750.  I am going to Seattle this weekend with my better half.  I'm sure the city will be a-buzz with all of the Superbowl excitement.  The real perk is that I am visiting Twinline on Saturday and meeting up with David (aka Doctor D).

This morning, I visited Twinline Motorcycles in Seattle and got to meet Tower and Doctor D - both really nice guys. David's Super Sport looks amazing- even better in person. The paint has much more depth than the photos. Tower showed me The Thorn and his CB350 he is taking to the One Show next week in PDX. I can't believe how light and skinny The Thorn is - and the tank is autographed by the Bostrom brothers.  Awesome morning!! Many thanks to David and Tower.

Lucky bugger.... ;D ;)

The Thorn is 320 pounds dripping wet, but feels like its 200 - like you can flick it around merely by thinking left or right. With that little weight and 67-70 hp, I'm sure it's plenty fast especially through any twisty road.

Rear wheel re-assembled!  Powdercoated a spare brake plate black (not painted checkers), and installed some Joker Machine parts (brake rod and stabilizer).

Now the trickier task of tuning the CRs, which were way too lean, and fixing an exhaust leak (most likely caused by the ceramic powdercoat on the inside of the pipe).  I will need to sand some of the interior powdercoating to get the headers to fit properly.

That said, the bike is looking close.
