i screwed my timing!
« on: April 29, 2009, 11:38:26 PM »
after  fiddling with a leak down test i realized that i had bumped the points for 2-3 and they were not opening or closing so i backed off the screw andset the gap.bike was still running then i got stupid and thought i should set both to the gap in manual 0.330 mm but i did something wrong because i turned the crank for 1-4  f mark and set them to be open there and moved on to 2-3 now i can't even ride it because it boggs backfires and dies on me so i am left with one conclusion i ----ed up need help on how to get it back i don't have a timing light. One thing i did try was what the manual described for setting timing for 1-4 points disconnect the blue wire hook up test light there and ground it to the case then torn ignition on and turn crank until light comes on and it should come on when the f mark is lined up with the timing mark except my light never came on no mater how many revolutions i did what up?

It's a two step process.  First rotate the crank until the points are open at it's widest.  Then adjust the gap to 0.3~0.4mm.  Then rotate the crank to the point where the points >just< open the 1.4 plate should be rotated so that when the points >Just< open, the 1.4 F mark (the tick not the letter) aligns with the notch.

Same process with the 2.3 set; adjust max gap, and then move the subplate up or down to mak the points >just< opens when the 2.3 F mark aligns with the notch.   A small 12 v lamp with two wires and alligator clips works fine for this.  Clip across the points. turn on ignition.  The light will come on when the points are open.
