how much of a cut is necessary, angle-wise? i picked up a spare 750 trans i'm going to give the treatment in preperation for the 850 this winter. i paid 5.00 for it, paid another 10 to ship it so i'm not going to be out a huge amount if i screw something up.

Might wanna ask Ken.  I just had him do mine and it looks great.  It definitely isn't cut that far, maybe 8-10* judging by my eye.

doing the backcutting cures the tendency of these transmissions to pop put of gear on really hard up-shifts and downshifts

My brother is looking for info on this. Is there a how to article anywhere?

not to say that you dont have it... but it sorta take talent to back cut the dogs and know were and how much to take off i would trust a pro... to do it... RIGHT THE FIRST TIME! nothing like mess'n up a perfectly good tranny...

let me put it this way...

so you do it yourself....

the bike i sall together and running and its broke... cuz you took too much off....
now you gotta pull the motor replace the trans... and all new gaskets and hope that you dont mess up your rings in the process... bottom line its gunna cost more in the long run if you do something wrong.
