How bad did I screw up? CB360 vs. CB350
« on: May 04, 2009, 05:38:36 PM »
I have 74' CB360 with a bad engine and missing alot of parts. I found a guy who said he had a couple of engines w/ carbs for it went over there.
I was in a little bit of a rush, the engines looked right (one froze, one not0, and plus this guy must have been cleaning out his garage, he gave me the wiring harness, decent shocks, coils, soilenoid, and then some. :)  cheap, $90.00

I did not look at the number on the engines till I got home.....CB350!!! :o :o

I knew it was to good to be true. :'(

Would a 350 fit n a 360 frame?

What about any other interchangable items between these bikes?
Any help would be appreciated, or you can just point and laugh.   :D

If you get the 350 engine in good shape, you can sell it for quite a bit more than a 360 engine... of course, it all depends on the market in your area. 350's are about 3 times as much as 360's here in Portland.\

As far as sticking a 350 in your 360 frame, I'm pretty sure the mounting bolts don't line up, but haven't played with 360's much.
No.

Upon closer inspection the froze engine is a CB350, the non-seized engine is a CL350.
The engine numbers are:

CB350E-4145689

CL350E-4069259

Can anyone help or point me in the right direction for dating these?

Here's another link for model ID - http://www.motorera.com/honda/index.htm

No, you wouldn't be able to use a 350 engine in a 360 frame, not without a LOT of work.
You're lucky, in that engine numbers are only used for titling in a couple of states, so you're golden.
Virtually no difference between CB/CL engines.

You done good for $90.

I'm pretty sure I remember that gearing is different between the cb and cl. Other than that and the pipes, both the same.

CB and CL were exactly the same engine - differed in countershaft sprocket only.
All differences were cosmetic.

SL350 was a substantially different engine.

In what way was it different? Curious.

Well on the plus side, while going through the box of extra stuff, under the nuts and bolts, there was a Craftsman wrench, Craftsman allen wrench and a Kmart tool 3/8 extention.
Bonus Tool find! ;D

You can put a 350 engine into 360 but not the other way round. (I tried)
360 is taller motor

Really. The mounts line up? Is there any issues with the sprocket and chain lining up with the rear wheel?

I tried 360 into 350.
I think rear mounts are OK or at least pretty close. (it was a few years ago)
Front and top engine plates are easily made/modified

I measured up the frame mounts on the 360 frame vs. the 350 engine. I stopped after I measured the front which are about an inch off.
More work than I am looking for.

Saw a 350 frame on ebay for like, 7 dollars. Said local pickup, but I'm betting that if offered enough incentive, he'd ship.
