cb500 tank slap

hey,
any ideas about a cure for the hands off tank slap?? at most any speed if i take my hands off the bars i get the start of a tank slap, now if i move back or forth on the seat some times it stops? the only thing i have done is add a second disk set up, could it be: tires, spokes, the alteration of the spedo drive, or the forks not being lined up, or maybe unequal amounts of fork oil?
any ideas?

It could be any of them.  The problem could have been there all along but the increased unsprung weight with your new dual disk setup may have "pushed it over the edge"

The same could be said for the rear shocks and swing arm bushes, problems here may be shown up in the same way.

I'm afraid that you are just going to have a thorough check item by item.

speaking of rear suspension, the cafe project i am working on, the rear swing arm bold had to be beaten out. i assume i need a new bolt and sleeve, but how do those bushings i keep hearing about fit? and while im on the topic, how do you put tapered bearings in the neck?

I've done both of these (on a 500 a long time ago...

The swingarm bolt runs in plain bushes that fit into the arm itself.  You need to remove the old bushes with a drift and fit new - quite easy.

The head bearings require that you dissemble the steering head and remove the bottom yoke (triple tree). The tapered roller bearings fit onto this. Also easy. Just take your time.

is the bushing in the frame or the swing arm? when i removed the arm, i have a bolt (with grease fittings- which nothing seems to fit) and a sleeve that the bolt goes through and sits inside the arm... ??
