71 cb750 gas leak
« on: August 12, 2012, 05:31:49 PM »
Carbs cleaned and synced in April this year and on Sat the #4 crab started pissing gas out the overflow tube.  Took the airbox off and when you turn on the petcock gas comes out of there and the overflow tube.  Is this a float issue?  They seem to move freely and not have any crud on them.  When it runs now cylinder 4 is hit or miss and I think the plug is fouled now as its only running on 3 cylinders most of the time.  Any ideas?

Does sound like a float issue.  They sometimes get hung up when the bowl is put back on.

Check for spark on #4.

There is def spark.  The cylinder does fire but it is intermittent.  I took it around the block and you could hear/feel that cylinder kicking on and off.  I hadnt had the bowls off since they were cleaned.  Hope its just something from the tank that has worked its way in the floats.

It does sound like a stuck float. Look for a dimple worn into the float arm where the needle touches it. I had one hanging up on the dimple and fixed it by filing. I think a better way would be to carefully fill the hole with solder and then file the solder flat. That way you can refix forever. I filed away quite a bit of my float arm & wish I hadn't.

Check/clean your connections for the coil.  You may have two minor issues...
