Yesterday's success story
« on: May 01, 2009, 01:28:10 PM »
Gordon and I spent the afternoon tuning my 73 CB350f.   ;D  ... a good day in itself!

the bike has been running somewhat poorly for a while now, but not terribly bothersome as 3 cylinders still ran like a bat outa hell!

#2 was dead at lower RPMs and idle was non existent.  I'm used to keeping things running at idle.   ;)

started w/ the battery because a good charge can solve a lot of problems.
then, onto the stock air filter... quite dirty... it presently remains off of the bike.
at that point it was running a little better but hard starting nonetheless.

yanked the carbs and idle jet circuits needed help.
carbs are fun and not fun we decided... a sort of love hate relationship... get past the grunt work and reach enlightenment sort of thing.   ;)

it ran and idled better... but we weren't done... w/ the new addition to the garage (thank you cb650  ;) ) of a timing light... we properly timed the dyna S.

seat of the pants tells me we just gained 8-10 horsepower (yes, I'm fully aware this is a lot for a cb350f)...

the last time Baby and I ton'd up was 2 years ago at the annual "old bike ride"... I think we may just do it again this year.   ;D 8) ;D

stay tuned... gordon may have some pictures to add   ;)

Carb tuning. Not my bag, but I'm somehow the best I know at it.

Did you get the #2 to idle?
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

idles perfectly, number two is hot at all RPMs... yet, we didn't read the instructions for my new motion pro carb sync... didn't realize it needed restrictors in the rubber tubes... so long blue stuff.   ;D

carb synching to be done at a later date.   :D

Beer cleans carbs? That's a new one. Should I move it to "Tips and Tricks?"  ;D

You know...I was gonna say something rude, cynical, and a bit sarcastic...but then I realized I haven't run my 350 since december.

I for one....extend forgiveness for your neglect of that small little bike.

Yeah, that MMI place sure teaches the right beer to clean carbs with. You can even drink the PBR after you clean the carbs with it. Green recycling at it's finest.

It's not a direct cleaning agent, but an essential tool nonetheless! ;D ;D

I'd beg to differ. PBR is THE only beer I'd soak my carbs in  ;D Helps prevent kidney stones too. PLUS, nothing like a cheap buzz.......
