moving the kickstand ?
« on: June 04, 2009, 09:35:40 am »
I am almost ready to paint my 76 cb 750 cafe racer project and have run into a snag. the bike when i got had an old beat up set of drag pipes on it. I took the drags and made them into 1 pipe on each side with turn outs. So it actually has like a 4 into 2 exhaust. There is a problem that i wasnt expecting thou. The left side pipe is hitting the kick stand when in the down position. So i need to move the stand about 3/4 inch in. My question is should I keep the kick stand mount at the same angle ? will the kick stand need to be longer ? shorter ? Thanks for the help.

Looking forward to seeing the answer to this. I have a 4-2 system as well and it's causing me problems with both the kick stand and the center stand. Maybe mounting a narrower center stand or something?

The center stand was easy i just removed it and the mounts. As for the kickstand I all ready fabbed a plate to weld on so I can weld the kickstand mount farther in but I am just wondering about the angle. Should i leave the mount at the same angle?

Ideally I think you would want to increase the angle and run a slightly longer stand to end up with the same point of contact and bike lean angle when parked.  IMO

I dont know about you, but my 78 cb750f leans like a Big Dog!  I wouldn't mind if it sat up a little straighter, although maybe a tiedown holding your bike at the right angle would help you to spot weld it.
