The 2007 SV-650 starter wouldn't engage... so I went for the kicker without thinking.

So they don't put kickstarters on new bikes anymore?

Well, that's what I did.  Turns out the SV is so light, it slides it's tire in second.  Have to push in third and still takes a second person to get some speed.

Ah, but you would be incorrect, sir.  Stock seat height 31.5, that bike is lowered two inches for my wife who is 5'5" and can touch both feet.

Well I don't have on my '98 CBR....of course my 1980 CX 500 doesn't have one either! Not sure I would classify that as "new" though!

I've had this happen on the FZR. Just put it in 2nd pull the clutch lever in, run/push the bike for about ten feet. Jump onto the seat and as your weight is coming down on the seat let go of the clutch. Has worked every time for me.

Push-starting and kick-starting are just methods of turning the engine, just like a starter motor.  The engine doesn't care what's making it turn.

Some of the newer fuel injection systems are made to prevent bump starting.

Almost all ZX, CBR, and GSXR from 06 and up are next to if not impossible to bump start.

Sad part is I tried. Maybe I'm a wuss?  :D

Good thing my 80 XS850 still have a kicker. That starter sucks so much juice!!

Why the hell would they do that?

Not enough juice to keep the sensors from burning themselves up trying to send signals. You can fry an ecu like that *snap*. Best just to jump it from a car. lol.
