Double checking if K&N will fit
« on: April 11, 2009, 08:26:20 PM »
I want to get these K&N pods ,but before I buy them I just want to make sure they will fit.
I have a 78cb750K and I measured the carbs today and got a measurement of 1.8inches
these K&Ns say the are 1.75.
Anyone have any input or know of another type of K&N pods I could use?

Thanks

I actually just looked at the K&N store and searched by the year and make of my bike and it brought me to these pods. http://store.knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=RC-2314

These ones are only 1.562 inches or 40mm,I measured my carbs and  like I said  they were 1.8 inches which is about 45.72mm. I may have been a  mm off but I don't think I was 5mm off.
Does anyone know the size of 78 cb750k carbs? Has anyone purchased a set of the K&N pods before for a 78 cb750k?
Thanks

unless you asolutely have to have the look of the pod filters, youre really better off sticking with the stock airbox, just run a k+n replacement filter in it. you wont regret it.

The '77 and '78K carbs are a larger outer diameter than the pre '77K carbs on both the engine and airbox side.  I'm not sure about the F's.  If I remember correctly, there's about a 2/10ths inch difference.

The 77/78Ks carb bodies intakes/outputs are the same as the 77/78Fs.

Hi Fuzzybutt,

Would you happen to have a part number for the stock replacement K+N air filter? The K+N site only seems to have pods.

Thanks

I already have a cheap set of pods that I'm running and they are pretty worn out.
Thats why I want to replace them with the K&N's.
The carbs have already been re jetted for the pods and the 4 into 1 exaust or
maybe I'd give the airbox a try,but to be honest my bike runs great with the pods.
I know some people don't like them and list all the disadvantages of having them but I like the looks of them and don't even notice any of the disadvantages that I've heard there are.
Thanks though

the difference being 2/10's would make sense because the K&N website lists the same fitment all the way across the board (pre 77 and also 77 and 78) and they show 40mm(1.6inches) being the correct size but I measured mine and got about 2/10's of inch bigger(45mm) ??? I knew that the 78 carbs were bigger than the older carbs because I tried to try my pods on my 76 cb750 when I had it and found that they were to big.

So now I just have to decide between which ones I want and also if anyone has any more info about the size or fitment of the pods please chime in. I like the looks of the oval tapered pods better than the round tapered ones. Would there be a reason the oval ones wouldn't fit? Looks like there is plenty of room by the specs on the filters.
Here are my two choices although I like the metal capped pods better than the rubber ones.
Any thought?

Any thoughts /experience  ;D

I think they make them slightly smaller than the carbs so they will fit tightly.

Buzz at Dynoman knows his stuff and has 77-78 pods. If you want to be sure you get the right filter...............

When I initially bought the EMGO pods for my 1977 K, the dealer provided the smaller diameter ones (39mm) which are for the pre-77 models.  Needless to say, I could not get them to fit.  I exchanged them for 42mm pods and was able to put them on, although it was a very tight fit.  The K&N ones you showed have 44mm inside measurements, so they should fit with no problem.  I like the round style as opposed to the oval, but your preference is the only one that really matters on your bike.
