Word has it the car's fuel pump is an Aston Martin v12... yes, the fuel pump.

Yes Billy, from time to time even the Brits go OTT.  :D :D :D :D :D

I'm meeting the team this Sunday in Coventry. It's about 100 mile drive and i'll meet up with John. (oldbiker on here)

I'll take some pics if Benny will lend me his phone.

To use a V12 for the fuel pump seems like a waste as well as added weight. Unless they need the weight to keep the Bloodhound on the ground. I would think a small gas turbine would provide the revolutions and pumping volume without the added weight. Or even to use the auxiliary shaft of the jet engine like they use for most turbines...

Are there any "real" pictures to date? Or is all the work still in the concept phase?

personally i hope they're using the v12 in an expression of gratuitous excess. one hopes it doesn't use cat-converters either.  ;D

pix would be awesome sam! you hang in good company sir.  8)

Scott, the concept phase is long gone and as of Sunday, so is the design phase.
It was anounced on Sunday that they are now starting the build.
The plan is to have the car on track in Africa in June 2011.

I read more details on their web site. The V12 has a little more function than the fuel pump. It is also the APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) providing hydraulic and electrical power as well. Still doesn't make sense to me... It's like installing a V12 combustion engine in a SR71!

It might not make sence to a lot of people Scott but remember, some of the brightest brains in the UK are working on this project.
Another thing to remember is that these people are still the holders of the outright LSR and are not just trying too push the record a little higher, they are going for 1K mph.

I take it you are a Scot also Bill, I wondered why the intrest in Bob Mac :D :D :D :D

Richard Noble, OBE (born 6 March 1946 in Edinburgh, Scotland) was a holder of the land speed record.

I got to meet both Richard and Andy and what nice people they are.
I also got to take a ride in the Thrust SSC simulator, it was out of this world, traveling through the sound barrier on the salt flats.  8) 8) 8) 8)

Yes, it's really sad, ain't it. :D :D :D :D :D :D

I got to meet John (oldbiker) and his wife Beril, what a nice couple.
I contacted John to ask about parking in the city centre of Coventry as I had heard there was no parking at the venue.
He said I could park at his house and take the bus into the city.
He ended up running me both ways as the Sunday bus service had been taken off.
I had tea and a sandwich with them while we talked about our racing exploits.
John had raced at National level and had had a quite ilustrious racing career.
He had lots of photos of his racing, one of them showing him leaving the starting grid at Mallory Park behind no less than a young Mike Hailwood and phil Read on NSU Sport Max machines. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
What a great guy and if you read this John, thanks again. 8) 8) 8) 8)

very cool sam. i have to say i was rooting for our guy. partly for patriotic reasons,  part because he's a bit of a folk hero, and reaching (at the time) the end of his competitive days.

also, that 'thrust ssc' was ugly as hell!  ;D

all that aside i am all for pursuits in the name of speed.

We had a Mr Green stop by the pits and look at the diesel streaminer we were working on , at Speedweek in Aug..

We were in SlC that day, when we came back they said "guess who you missed!"

When they told me I had a blank look  :-[,... then they filled me in..... never was much of a car guy, but I do like hot rods....

Yeah, I think that would be him.

What I meant by hot rods was American old iron hopped up with bigger faster motors and parts..

Like the people in the pits beside us..
Blonde lady, gets the orange Burkland Stude.. up and running to modern (being able to pass tech) standards.. and running 180 ish . Came out last year and ran a 218 or 220.. shoulda seen her smile.. :o   :o

Or the guy pitted with them.. stretched roadster, your head and rollbar exposed above the body, describing how he had that week gone into his SIXTEENTH spin.. on that car(over the years he owned it), and how one had gotten hairy,  car started to lift  :o.. all spins at 175mph plus..

Or the hundred or so rat rods that were there...

hot rod  heaven... best way to describe it..
