Honda Parts Direct.com
« on: May 05, 2009, 12:51:08 PM »
Has anyone ordered from Hondapartsdirect.com in the past month?
I placed an order on the 24th of April and their website still says the order is being reviewed.  I have sent 2 emails to them, with no reply except for

"We are sorry for any delayed response in responding to your email. We are currently moving our warehouse and things are moving slower than expected. If you need assistance please call us at 1-866-767-1835."

Also tried calling them, to see what's up with the order but no able to get a hold of a real person.

This is the first place i've had troubles with, and all i want to do is rebuild my engine.

If anyone else  has had issues, please let me know!  I'm about to cancel the order but don't know if they will even get the message!

Ruh Roh.

Placed an order last Friday and they said it should ship out this Thursday.

We'll see.

I ordered about 3 weeks ago (oil pan gaskets).  I spoke to the guy you hear in the recordings.  I got my stuff in about a week.  The guy talked about the temporary shutdown and the re-opening and said they were moving their warehouse and would be back to "normal" soon.  I'm hopeful they're good to go.  They have been great.

I placed an order with a similar company (http://www.hdlparts.com/default.asp) and had no issues. They called me when parts arrived and when they shipped. Got everything in under a week. Their website is just like Honda Parts Direct.

If i would have known they were shut down for a little bit, I would have definitely ordered from another source.  I have heard good things about them, that's why i placed the order, but after this experience, dont think i'll order from them again.

Seems they should let customers be aware of their situation, and say that orders may be delayed longer than normal.

Just like everything else, customer service has gone to S*#%!

There was a thread on this forum regarding their shutdown a few months ago.  Many wept.  ;)  So far, I'm pleased (again) with them.  They had plainly posted on their site that they had shut down.  I surely hope that they are or will get back to what many of us have come to learn as "about as good as it gets" for Honda parts (both prices and service).  It seems that at least some and possibly all of the people that had run the place before are there again.  They've earned plenty of my loyalty and I'll be ordering from them again.  I have had bad experiences with others and I can understand your frustration r6100mph.

I actually just got a call from Honda Parts direct, and they informed me that some parts have been discontinued.

SPECIFICALLY THE CAM CHAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

He said that honda discontinued the cam chain.  Is NOS the only option, for places that might have it on the shelf?

Are there aftermarket companies that make a cam chain for a CB400F?

At least the ball is rolling with the order!

Thanks for recommendations for the cam chain, i'll check them out, but I prefer not to order from oversees because in addition to increased shipping costs, there is some sort of European tax, and another additional international charge from my credit card company.

I know a lot of people on here like Hondapartsdirect.com very much, but I will NEVER go through them again for parts.  Since they were not able to get me a lot of the parts I requested, and being almost 2 weeks since I heard anything from them, they still charged me over $9 in shipping for some piston circlips, 2 rubber washers and the cam chain push bar.  Weight, maybe 1/8 of a pound at most.

I could understand $9 shipping for the cam chain and other items, but for a few measly little parts....

Seems completely ridiculous!

Yeah I mentioned this in my goons dual disc brakes a few months ago, I noticed when they were back up that I couldn't find any way to find or order parts for my 76 750k, I then moved on to westernhills honda and they got me hooked up. I have heard that they have the largest vintage goodies around, not sure how true it is but I got their stuff in 5 days.

Ordered on the first of May and it only says it has been reviewed on the 5th.
Called them up and the guy said it should go out on the 7th.
5 more days and nothing.
Tried to call them just now (about 9:45 CDT) and they are closed?

Me smell caca.  >:(
If they have back ordered parts, just let me know, this is crap.

I placed a big order recently. Hadn't heard anything for a while. Called them got thru on the first call. They said they had emailed me that about half of what I wanted was discontinued and what should they do. Never got the mail but to be fair, it may have hit my spam folder and I deleted it.

Anyway, once i told them to ship what they had, got it quickly.

I ordered some stuff from Honda Parts Direct a couple weeks ago on a Sunday.  I have mixed feelings about my experience.  They fulfilled my order, but I feel that it could have been faster (15 days) and they could have kept me informed better about shipping.  I will probably order from them again.  I didn't know that they had problems with moving their warehouse, so now I'm much more inclined to try them again.

Following the instructions on their web-site, I called shortly after I placed my order to make sure that the parts I was ordering were not discontinued.  I called on Monday morning.  Turns out that one of the parts was discontinued, so I asked them to drop it from the order.  I said, "OK, great.  So the rest will ship out today (Monday), then?"

They said they would ship "on Thursday".

I don't understand the delay.  I was a little irritated about why they didn't just ship them the same day, or even the next day.  This was going to ruin my riding plans for the up-coming weekend.  I told myself to calm down, and just be patient.  Thursday came and went, and I got no email or any notification about my parts.  Again, patience.  Following Monday I checked the order status online.  It said something like "processing" or "in review".  I remained patient, as the gentleman I had spoken with on the phone sounded very reassuring and trustworthy.  I intended to call, but got wrapped up in work.

The parts finally arrived the FOLLOWING Monday.  That's 15 days from when I ordered them.  Basically ruined two weekends of beautiful riding weather for me.  Perhaps my expectations were unrealistic in that I expected an order placed on Sunday to ship out on Monday, and arrive via UPS ground by Friday.  Then I'd spend an hour or so installing, and be on the road again for the weekend.

Like I said, though, I'd probably try them again, but not for something I need very quickly.

These places DO NOT stock the old parts. They order from Honda when you place your order. If the Honda warehouse has the parts you should get them in 1 to 2 weeks.

If that's the case, who can I take my business to in the US that will let me know in a timely manner if what I ordered is on backorder? And just ship me what they have in stock at the time I place my order and send the backorder crap separately?

The last time I had to order was from westernhills honda and it all came within a week, and to the right address also. When I ordered from hondaparts-direct they forgot to add the N. to my address and it went to 5328 in the hood address and I had to pick them up from a guys house at 11:00 at night, he said they were just sitting on the back porch. I shuttered as I thought well there was 100$ worth of parts i there, thank god this guy was a good person or I would have never got them...
If you can next time or it you can cancel this order Dook hit up westernhills honda with the link I posted, they do have the largest vintage parts source around and they are in Indiana also I think so ship time would be nothing.

Man, I feel pretty lucky.  Anytime I need oem parts for my bike I just walk into my local dealer and order them.  They'll even look up the parts for me and tell me if they're discontinued or not right then and there.  Usually get the part in 3-4 days to boot.

And shoot, their not even a honda dealership.

quick update,

original order placed on 4/24

placed multiple emails and calls asking for info regarding the order...nothing

5/7 got a call from them saying some of the parts i ordered were discontinued, so I went ahead and ordered the other parts i needed, cam chain bar for tensioner, piston circlips, and two rubber washers for the head.

I sent an email asking for reason why shipping was just over $9 on a $21 order for some parts that weigh very little.

So i say fine, just get me my parts.

And here we are today 5/13, and still no email confirming shipment, no email or call saying that the parts have arrived and will ship, no tracking number and their website still says the order is being "reviewed"

I say never again will I order from Hondapartsdirect!

So for my 350F rebuild I'll be looking to other sources for parts.

I'll keep you posted if I actually receive my parts.

I use www.ServiceHonda.com. I have probably purchased over $1000 in parts from them. I usually get a confirmation phone call. PLUS you'll get a 20-30% discount online. Save your online purchases for larger orders to make up for shipping costs. I actually go to www.BikeBandit.com to verify that a part is still available from Honda before I order from Service Honda. If the Bike Bandit system shows a price then I know it can be had.

As far as shipping goes, expect to pay no matter who you buy from. Complain to UPS. They have much larger overhead than you or I. Plus they expect to make a profit. If you get by for less than $10 feel lucky irregardless of the value. If it will fit in a standard envelope and weighs less than 1oz maybe they will ship via USPS for 44 cents but I doubt it. Otherwise go to your local Honda dealer and ask them to order it for you. Just depends on your proximity to the dealer and what your time is worth.

Oh yeah, beware, I don't trust the kids behind the local counter (apologies to our younger guys here) to be able to look up the correct parts for a bike that is older than they are and have never seen. If these bikes could do stoppies then maybe they'd be interested. I always go armed with parts numbers.

Yeah, but they charge you more off the top. The dealer is good for small items that don't cost that much and you don't want to get stuck with a minimum shipping cost. Numerous items or costly ones are usually easier to obtain from these types of outfits compared to dealers.

Parts ordered on the 5th, received on the 15th.

I look up my parts on bikebandit first (motogrid does it too) because those sites will tell you if the parts are available at all, when hondaparts-direct does not. Then order. Takes more time, but I'm cheapish on some things.

I'm actually missing one bolt and two nuts from my order. We'll see how they do correcting the problem. They are the cheapest supplier after all...

Another update:

talked to the guy over the phone couple of days ago, because i didn't receive any emails or saw that the status of the order on the website was the same "reviewed"

He informed me that additional items were discontinued, so he gave me the option to cancel the order since I only had some piston circlips on order.

So i said yes, please cancel my order, and I'll get the parts elsewhere.

A couple of days later, today, I didn't see the refund, so i give him a call again, and he said that the remaining parts are ready to be shipped out.  WOAH!  HOLD ON!  I just spoke to you a couple of days ago, and you said you would cancel the order and refund the money!

He replies "oh, i totally forgot."  I'll get right on that, and refund the money.

We will see what happens, and hopefully I'll get my money back, and put an end to this thread.

Keep in mind the original order was placed on April 24th!  What a joke!!!!!!!!

my suggestion, DONT ORDER PARTS FROM HONDADIRECT.COM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Something akin to that happened last summer.
It takes me a little longer, but now I look up parts on bikebandit.com first and then order from hondaparts. The Bike Bandit website shows if the parts are discontinued or not. Then I order from Hondaparts-direct 'cause they're cheaper. It takes HPD longer to verify and call back etc etc. More room for error.

Or order from somewhere else... :)
