Pipes. What should I be smoking?
« on: May 08, 2009, 11:35:08 AM »
So, long story short, Jebus and Parkinson's have seen fit that I have a modest amount of money to spend as I wish on my bike, among other things.

One of the things I could spend a small or large amount of money would be a new exhaust setup.  I find it funny that I could install a cycle-x 4-2-1 system that's worth more than 1/3 of my 750 K3/6, total.  But I could if I really wanted to.  Would there be any tangible benefit to spending $400 vs. $200 on any given system?  Or for that matter $400 vs. less than $100 for some F or Super Sport castoff?  What benefit does a 4-2-1 have over a 4-1, if any?  I believe the engine to be bored out to 836, if that makes any difference.

Forget Jebus, what would YOU do?  Opinions?

Ideally, I'd like too have a bit more usable power above 4-5K rpm.  Hoping to spend most of this summer on the road.  I suppose there might be some weight saved, though I doubt it makes much difference.  I have no illusions about my bike being a racer of any sort, but it would be nice to maximize what I have.

Just out of the curiousity factor, If it were ME I would go with the cycle-X 4-2-1 setup.

I'll just chain the exhaust up when I park it.

Pretty much any exhaust is going to work for you with little difference in power that you would likely notice. Better to spend the extra cash on some engine work such as porting, cam etc to get real power benefits. For a summer of road riding just get your bike in shape, tuned-up (whatever the exhaust) and you`ll have a good time.

cheers

I dunno, man.  Shiny stuff is great if you're a seagull.  But I say chrome, schmome.

Looks like I'm going the cheap, dirty and effective route.  Whatever I get will solve my exhaust leak, so its all good.
