1976 CB750K: Rewire or Replace Wire Harness?
« on: May 05, 2009, 02:09:22 PM »
I've had some weird intermittent charging/headlight/signal issues with my 750, and brought it into the garage today to start troubleshooting. It looks like the previous owner did quite a bit of tinkering around with the wiring on this bike and I can't really make heads or tails of it. I found a site that sells the OEM wire harness for about $120, do you think it'd be work it to just get that and swap it out instead of rewiring the whole bike by hand?

Easier and cheaper.....by the time you bought all the connectors and appropriate colored wiring, you'd have to be up that that cost.....
I wanted to make one myself, but found it cheaper to just buy one
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

parts n more has a harness for the k4-k5 but you should be able to use it on your k6 as well. it's not OEM but it IS a really nice quality, especially for the money.

I saw that earlier today and wrote it off since the years didn't match, but I wrote their technical department and am waiting to hear back from them. Thanks for the heads up!

They got back to me and said:

Hello,
We can only confirm that the parts will fit the bikes listed.
PNM

So maybe I'll just order the OEM part to be on the safe side.

I can't see your harness, of course.
But, unless someone has taken a blowtorch or hatchet to what you have, it's almost certainly repairable.  And, for less outlay than a new one, at least for materials.   Get a wire diagram and restore each bit that differs from the diagram.  Learn to solder.  Get some shrink wrap, maybe some liquid vinyl.  Check out vintageconnections.com.

What makes you think yours is beyond repair?   Just change what is different from the correct wire diagram back to what it should be.

It just doesn't look like any of the original harness is intact... I'm awash in a sea of multicolored wire and electrical tape!

Too bad most of the images aren't working anymore, I'd love to see that bike coming together!
