Strange smell?
« on: May 09, 2009, 10:59:02 PM »
Went riding today with a few others. On stopping at the end, I was asked why my bike had a funny smell when I went flying past them?  90+ 8)

On asking what it smelt like, jet fuel was the answer.  I am not running jet fuel ;D

New motor with 148 miles on it.  Any thoughts?  lean? New exhaust?
No blue or black smoke at all.  Perhaps the smell of excellence ;D ;D ;D ;D

Just tell them that is the smell of perfect engineering, all Hondas come with it just to make the bikes we pass jealous. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Had a strange smell coming from my Model A recently.
Smelled like something dead.
So I decided not to look for it.
Later on --out on the road-engine cut out.
Turned out a rubber grommet on the firewall was shorting out.

Have you done your initial post-break-in oil change yet?  If not could be whatever assembly lube you used, combined with the curing paint on the motor, AND the new exhaust, all coming together to create "The smell of excellence!"   ;D

I wouldn't worry too much about it for a few more miles, unless it starts smelling like something dead  :o

yup.

I baked my repainted engine parts in the oven as required and could still smell the VHT for a couple thousand miles.

Sounds right to me.  I sometimes do it earlier just to check what's coming outta the motor, I'm often paranoid after a rebuild :)

Also,

"Do you smell that? It's motor paint, son. Nothing else on the world smells like that. I love the smell of motor paint in the morning.  Y'know, once we had a full rebuild.... for 12 hours....and when it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of them, not one stinking extra part. The smell, y'know that gasoline smell, that whole hell.
Smells like........ Victory."

Haven't added hydrocarbons to your diet lately, have ya?  ;D
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.
