i lost my desire to skydive when a lady that was jumping at the skydiving center in zephyrhills (near where i used to live) had both chutes malfunction and she hit the ground HARD from 10,000 feet.

What a thoughtful story to tell to somebody who's just about to go skydiving... :-\

I say go for it. I wanted to do it in the Service, but Chopper Pilots had no need to. They stopped training F-4 Drivers also.

I love how I get a horror story from a guy who owns a motorcycle.
Excuse me if I take your nay saying with a grain of salt.  :P
"I'd never skydive! It's dangerous and people die!"
In Westport once sitting at a light, a motorcycle got barely tapped from the rear. He was SITTING STILL mind you, full gear. The guy fell off and broke his neck.
Freak accidents happen.
I've read that all 3 dive sites in kansas have a chip installed in the chute that deploy It  at a certain elevation if you haven't done it yourself.
I may be a little crazy, but I think about saftey....Most the time.  ;D

From what I can find, of the 540,000 tandem jumps made in the U.S. in 1998-2001, there was only 1 death.  Seems safer than a 5 mile ride to work to me!

I think you're in good hands, Ink.

My favorite phrase used to describe skydiving is "it's like throwing yourself at the Earth and trying to miss". ;D

Hopefully you're safe on your 5 mile trip.  ;D

Ink just go do it. It is the closest you can get to true flying. It would be like riding a Bike, completely different than driving a car. Those I know that do it, love it. Just be sure you learn proper landing technique. I did some hang gliding back in Cali, sort of the same feeling. It is called freedom.

If I remember correctly.....Terry in Australia used to be a paratrooper

Nah, they just used to throw him out of the plane to get away from his warped sense of humour.... ;D
