carb collars, silicone how permanent?
« on: May 10, 2009, 12:31:19 am »
I have been told by my mechanic that my bike has a leak at #3 carb collar and as these are like not easy to procure here in Godzone, how permanent can I expect a good coating of silicone spray to be?
I mean it's only gotta keep air getting in and mixture getting out right!
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

I can get them and ship them to you. Don't try to make old stuff new.

Urgg removing carbs, makes me shudder just to think of it but thanks for the offer as I will be taking the motor out for painting this winter and might as well do them then.

A good temporary (possibly even permanent) fix is to use Liquid Electric Tape.  We had a thread going on about this subject a year ago, and this stuff stands up to complete immersion in gas indefinitely.  I still have some that's been sitting in a jar of gas for a year and it hasn't softened at all.
