1975 honda cb360 carb question
« on: April 26, 2009, 04:35:24 PM »
the bike ran 8 years ago and I had it sitting in my parents garage. decided to clean it up and get it running again. Took the carbs off and one looked good but the other looked like someone puked in it and closed it back up. Took the carbs apart and soaked them. had a little tear in the rubber tip on the float valve so ordered 2 new ones. Now the new ones came with new seats but I can not get the existing seats out to save my life. Used needle nosed plies which I shouldn't had as this scuffed them up pretty good. Now I'm stuck till I get them out. They rotate in the seat but just wont release. Any special tips? Other then that I got carbs and all jets like new. Any help is greatly appreciated

The rubber seals that surround the valve seats are probably swollen, particularly if they were left in place when you soaked the carb bodies.  If it were me, I'd put a bit of oil along the outer rim and try prying them out with a pair of diagonal pliers, carefully using the carb body for leverage.

They were a press-fit on my 360.  The mid-mounted o-ring does a good job of holding them in place.

tap hole and screw bolt in.
They are press fit, 'U' shaped hold down bracket
Got a set next to me right now.

I just pulled my seats out last night,I used a pair of vicegrips ....carefully.....I tried straight out no go ...I rotated them about 90 and tried again with some wiggling it popped out ...the vice grips gave the holding grip but don't go too tight or you will smuch them

If you don't want to tap them, put a tight fitting bar/bolt/whatever into the opening, it stops it getting crushed.

thanks for the help. They were pressed in and the o ring was very swollen along with more crud i missed around the o ring and under the seat. little oil like Bill suggested worked. Cant wait to get this running again. On vacation next week and #1 priority is getting this back on the road.

got the carbs back on on Monday and drove it around the block a couple times. Front tire was pretty dry rot so didnt want to push it.  its at a small dealer having the new tires put on. Hope to have it back soon. While putting the carbs back on one throttle line was rusted somewhere in the line and broke. So gonna replace both. Once I get it back i'll give it a good bath and buff it out and post some pics. Thanks for the help again. Also I don't know if i'm just lucky but starts right up idles good revs up good. Not sure if I'll need to tune it up or sync the carbs. Although it drove good for the short period of time I drove it.

Youll love it.  I rode mine on the old bike run last weekend and it was a blast in the corners.
