Its made from different material, high friction steel. Stockers are low tech stainless.

"18% stickier than stock stainless". Probably more on our old bikes.

Well, a couple weeks of breaking in the new EBC Rotors, and the phantom squeal is BACK!!! What the #$%*?!!!!
It's gotta be this blasted caliper of mine. Anyone know if a 77 cb70K front caliper will fit on a K4? It seems to be, it is a little bit better design, and might not have the squeal tendency that the old K Tokicos have?

Fishhead, what rotor is that? Is it 300, 310, or 320mm? Did you make the caliper adaptor too? I have a '78 CB750F3 that I would like to add modern brakes to. If there is a large diameter rotor that will easily bolt up to the stock Comstars, that would solve half my problem. I have a set of 4-pot Nissins here from a Suzuki Bandit 1200 (and a GSX-R master cylinder) that I would like to make brackets to fit. I already have Progressive springs and fresh fork oil to go through the forks with when I do the swap.

I've got a 77 k model. Looks like there are a lot of people out there with the same squealing issue. Makes me feel a little better. I have already rebuilt my front caliper and maser cylinder, and tried having my rotor sanded. All of these worked for a few days of riding but eventually the squeal came back. Gave the brake pads a good wash down after the sanding and this seemed to help a bit but I'm picky. Gonna try out the EBC rotor option. We'll see how that goes. Thanks for the tips guys!

Well I've already ordered it, so I guess I'll let you know if I have any better success. The guys at the shop said that my rotor was too worn and I needed a new one so I though I'd give it a try. Honestly I think they were grasping at straws. However I think I've replaced almost every other brake part. Did you notice any increase in stopping power?

Hey I'm new to the site but I was looking at the FAQ's page. There's some interesting tips to eliminate squealing there that I might try.

According to your first post in this thread, you were already adding the EBC disc.

Again in the first post, you say the EBC gets rid of the squeaks, gives great lever feel but yet you don't have one installed ?

How would you know this and be able "factually" post what it does do and doesn't do?

It doesnt seam like others have had the same luck with thier EBC disc as you have had with "your" EBC disc.

i was going off a BIKE i just installed one on... a 78K i tried buying 1 at the same time as my customer but i didnt have the $$$ i put the SS lines and rebuilt the front end!! it was pretty nice it didnt squeak on that bike and hasnt yet! my 77K has everything BUT the EBC rotor

it still stops way better than stock with the stock disk...

sorry i didnt clairify that i installed all that stuff on another bike and not mine... but my bike has ALL the above stuff MINUS the rotor!

Guys

I'm looking for a little advice on a dual disk conversion for my '72 750. So far, I've got myself a second calliper, arm, adjusting spring and screw and just to complete the ensemble (and not to change the look too much), a GL1000 master cylinder.

The issue I have is that the '72 callipers had diagonally offset holes for the brake hose connection (joining from the right hand side) and the bleed nipple (in the left). Obviously if I'm mounting the second calliper on the opposite side to the regular mount, I need to reverse these two - but the hole that the brake hose joins has a small washer-type block off plate deep inside to increase the fluid pressure. Trouble is, I can't see any way of removing the washer thingie and putting it into the opposing hole (if that makes any sense) - and there's nothing on the fische to give me any clues, either.

Any suggestions? Am I going to ruin the calliper if I try to extract the washer? And if not, what's the best way to get it out?

this is helpful to know as i want to keep a relatively stock look. but more importantly i like the lower cost compared to doing many these things twice as with dual disks. also, the elegance and lower unsprung weight for a bit better feel appeals. wonder if i can get the EBC rotor for my 550k0.

also of interest is that 'ceramic' piston one of our members turns out.

My 74 squeals my 72 did and my 75 cb350 did too a friend that was a Honda me chance in the 80s said that all the 70s Hondas did it

This is what i've done with the help of Frank(754).The rotors and calipers came from a Honda VFR 750
1994-96.
The rim and the spokes came from cycle exchange, its a 18"
I did the powder coating,lacing and truing as well.I powder coat the calipers and completely rebuild the calipers.You 'll see that i installed stainless Steel brake lines.

I also installed a stainless fender but we did not see it on the picture.I make the fork brace.I installed progressive suspension,fork damper valves and pre-load adjusters.All bolts and nuts are in stainless steel.

Voilà !

I have a fork and brakes from 1991 VFR I want to use with K front wheel.

The lower legs came from a cb750 f2.This way,it was easier for Frank to do brackets for my calipers.Frank also did some spacers to placed the calipers right in the center of the rotors.I did not changed anything else.My bike is a k4.

If you can source the same calipers and rotors as Bert.. Have another set of adapters made up.
The F lowers are far easier to work with than the K lowers.
