Topic: How do you remove dash indicator lights

I'm wanting to paint my indicator dash display to freshen it up a bid.  I initially thought about masking the indicator light panel, but I am worried that I will get a hard edge where the paint meets the tape.  If I could remove the metal indicator light panel without damaging it. I can just shoot the whole piece without worrying about the panel.  How do you get it off without damaging it?

You need to remove the bulb/socket assembly from the back of the unit (see diagram) and then remove the metal-based decal from the front.  The plastic lenses are held in place by the decal.  The trick is, of course, removing the decal without damaging it.  In my experience, this is best accomplished using a heat gun to soften the adhesive and an exacto knife and putty knife to gently work it loose.  The heat gun should be set on at the lowest possible temperature that will serve to soften the adhesive so as not to distort or burn the decal.  The decal can be reattached using an automotive-grade trim adhesive.

Yamiya has the decals available if you run into trouble with your old one... it's for a 750 though, will it be similar enough?  They also have one with a white background if you look for it.

Very old topic but this is the exact question I have.

What is the correct way to remove the clamp and take the bulbs out? I tried gently pushing the clamp down but no movement. Before I apply more force and bend it I just want to check I'm doing the right thing.

Also, the clamp on my bike seems to be installed the other way around as in the exploded view posted above? See attached.

Bike is a CB750 K6, need to replace one of the bulbs in this assembly.

Actually just leave the clamp alone.
Remove the 4 bolts that hold the dash and handlebars (put a blanket over the tank or remove the tank is best).
Turn the dash over and pull out the bulb rubber holder to expose the bulb. The rubber is pushed in the hole. The bulb socket is in the rubber.

Previous owner has changed the original bulbs for LEDs so couldn't replace it straightaway. Found the LEDs he used online though so in a couple of days I should have four working lights there again.

The Yamiha one does not look "3D" like the oem ones ?? Not embossed in other words ??

If you're trying to remove the foil 3d decal I'd avoid trying to lever it off, insert a stanley or craft knife blade under but under no account try to lever it up, just slide it to one side, keep moving the blade to another location and doing the same, as soon as you try to lift it up the decal will dent from the underside and it's almost impossible to remove the mark when it does. Been there, done that.

Yamiya and all other replacement decals are just printed, not embossed like the Honda one. The silver edge line is also embossed.

I polished mine and found a new decal online somewhere. I think it turned out pretty nice. (Except for the bolt that started getting surface rust!)
