(1) Its not rare

(2) The styling is an aquired taste

(3) if you go to http://www.motogrid.com/pages/parts/viewbybrand/7/default.aspx

and look up the parts listing and at the gearbox page you will probably find it easier to assemble the trans shafts

Like has been said, it's not rare, or even unusual, and has styling only a mother could love.
It's doubtful that you'll ever hear it "scream", as the performance is not even up to 450 standards. Despite the increased displacement, quite a bit of de-tuning was done, so a good 450 will probably beat it every time.
But they do have a following.
For the most part, a lot of stuff interchanges with the 450 - unfortunately, the tranny is not included in that category.....

What's your location???? I'd be happy to show you how......

Brown seats no mike,

Its the humpback tank and elephantine exhaust system along with starter clutches that dont and mile long riveted cam chains that do me most, plus the enviable colours of course!!

Hmm - not quite sure about that comment tbp unless you mean full and complete tranny? A common mod for the 450 in UK racing is to take 2nd and 3rd out of the 500 twin and swap the two cogs into the 450 drive train. It works great and gives the 450 a closer ratio more useable box for racing. I did this on mine before forking out for the the terrible nasty badly fitting Nova 6-speed box. Should have stuck with the 450...

The tranny is easy to build up and strip down but takes time due to the fiddling with circlips etc. It's not rocket science though so I'd thoroughly recommend getting a manual/picture of the parts and having a go!  ;D

That's all true of course, Mooney.
My only point is that they're not identical, like most of the bikes' parts.
The slightly different gear ratios are one of the few differences between the two engines, along with crankshaft, head, etc.

Don't let anybody tell you the CB500T is ugly, mine turns heads everywhere I take it. I get tons of compliments on it. My GF gets frustrated with people talking to me about the bike., (Her brand new Ninja doesn't get any attention when my 500T is around.) I road it to a vintage bike show last September, and they insisted I put it in the show. (Took 2nd place in it's class) I see lots of bikes I think are ugly, but I don't go out of my way to critique somebody's pride and joy, like a few have done here in previous posts. Style wise, some of the bikes classic looks can be found on the NSU 250 Supermax, BMW's R60/2, and Velocette's Clubman Venom. Performance wise, the 500T leaves a lot to be desired, lousy handling, lousy front brake, lousy suspension, but a few of the right enhancements, and it's a fun bike.

Oh, and the exhaust on that 500 twin... well it's a thing only a mother could love.

Otherwise, the bike looks ok.
