Lic and Ins costs
« on: May 12, 2009, 07:33:44 PM »
I now live in Manitoba, Canada. I ride an old CB 650 custom, 1980. For me to lic and Ins it is 931.00. My car is an 05 Impala and that is 981.00. Im wondering two things .
1) What are others paying? my son has a CB750,1974 and is over a grand I think he said.
2) If any one else from Manitoba has found a more cost friendly solution I would love to hear about it. Hate picking up the soap.
( The restoration on my 71 CB750 is coming along nice.)

You're probably gonna hate me, but here in the States I pay a whopping $120/yr for lic and ins  :(

On the other hand, I pay over $1000/year for high deductible major medical, so it all evens out I guess

4 Banger doesn't Manitoba offer the same insurance that Ontario does, if it's a certain age it's considered a vintage bike and if you don't drive it more than so many miles a year you get a reduced rate.

That seems very high, but perhaps you have comprehensive liability and collision damage coverage with a small deductible.
I keep minimal damage coverage on mine cb with no theft coverage, but 300k liability and pay $140./yr

Bill - where are you getting vintage insurance in Ontario from?  I've looked at the one program available that I found (out of Hamilton I think - can't recall the broker) and they required the bike to be a certain age, stock condition, only ridden to club meetings etc. etc. etc.

Cheapest insurance I've found in Ontario is with Jevco.  I'm paying about $600 for a BMW 750 - liability only.  Then of course I have to buy my sticker each year for the plate which is another $40 or so.

Manitoba has public insurance - no competition.

I'm paying $180 and $220 for PL/PD on the CB550 and GL1100 Interstate.  Full coverage for the Wing would have been about $440 per year.  If my insurance card is right that is with Wawanesa, but I also have my house, car, truck and the two bikes with the same broker so I get a discount.

I pay like $40 a year for plates, and $80 a year for insurance.
Wow... you Canadians pay a lot!!

But to ride a bike... nearly anything is worth it!

Wow we are over paying in manitoba. But like Tintin said there is no compitition out here. To bad they take advantage of a guy. Sucks we can only ride for 6 months or less.
But like Soos said we will pay almost any thing to ride and they know it.

65 dollars a year for property tax and roas usage fees and a whopping 214 dollars a year for insurance with 10k injury on myself and 250k/500k on injuring others, 20k uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage and 5k real replacement value insurance, being 40, married with a totally clean driving record helps a bunch.
