Well thanks for the feedback guys, and yep, I've heard about the dangers of strenuous exercise early in the morning too, a workmate's brother is an undertaker and he said once that he never takes a dump before lunchtime because of all the bodies he's collected who've suffered heart attacks on the toilet, when they've strained just a little too much to "park an adder", as it were.

While the stress of a 3.5 mile walk at 5am was probably cause for concern when I was a tad over 300 pounds with blood pressure of 170/90, now I'm around 250 pounds and my BP is now around 130/70, I'm guessing it's less of a concern. I got some blood tests done a couple of weeks ago and my cholesterol is down to 4.5 too, which is great. I do want to get down to around 220 pounds, (mainly so I can wear my tailor made leather bike pants again) but that's a few months off yet.

The smoking thing is funny, I gave them away 4.75 years ago after 29 years of sticking things in my mouth and setting fire to them, and I'd love to say that I'm totally over the evil weed, but sadly, I still love the smell of cigarettes and tobacco, and often walk close to office workers who all cluster in doorways in the city (no smoking indoors here) like social outcasts, just so I can get a whiff.

Don't get me wrong, I really do love not stinking, and not seeing that yellow/brown staining on my fingers and teeth, or the "hot" feeling I always had in my chest, even after a long nights sleep, or the uncontrollable, wracking cough, the cracked lips etc, but I do love that "lit cigarette" smell, to me at least, it's as addictive as the nicotine itself.

Anyway, thanks again guys, and don't worry KK, I have some insurance in case I do unexpectantly leave my mortal coil, I've passed a large sheaf of annoying "generic" posts to my youngest son with very simple instructions to just insert these pearls of wisdom randomly with little thought of applicability or context, so he can continue with my #$%*t-stirring legacy, long after I expire.............. ;D ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

does your younger brother have asthma? your wife?  my parents both smoked while i was growing up, as well as while pregnant (thanks mom) but i have no asthma to report.  my dad smoked for 52 years (13 - 65) up until he had a heart attack when i was 15 and had to quit (not due to lack of survival.) my mom just recently quit.  we're just smoky people.  no asthma.  i think a lot of the second hand smoke jingle jangle is overblown.  these same holier than thou crusaders for clean air will then speed off in their suv that is giving us all black lung.

a friend of mine is a photographer for the state- used to do medical examiner stuff and told me about a guy with these nasty black lungs and said 'woah, heavy smoker!' and the M.E. says 'nope, just lived in baltimore his whole life.'

some people get asthma, and cancer, and meso-freaking-phelioma from inhaling environmental pollutants, but i have a hard time believing that 2nd hand smoke is as big a contributor as the recent campaigns seem to want me to think it is.

I find myself thinking about quitting more often, as my city remains one of the few that allows businesses that wish to provide a venue for me to I havent yet, and truthfully i wont be mad when i give it up- without having to wait for a heart attack- but i will always feel as though my fellow citizens went too far in forcing me to quit through taxation and legislation that limited my ability to make my own decision.

sorry to go off like that, its all friendly
-KK

can I say one thing?   2nd hand smoke... inside the car... for an entire childhood... is something that some of you will never experience... and should never have to.

think of how much money you'll save on clothes!

was looking at zazzle today and you already save 2 bucks on A shirt!  get to an xl and you lose any more discounts... I say hover at a buck 90 to two fitty and you'll add a decade or more and retain the discount.    :)

ideally i'd like to weigh what i did when i graduated high school, 225 pounds. i was wearing a size 52 jacket at 17 because i was so big across across my chest/shoulders i wasnt fat at all, just heavily muscled. i played hockey as a junior and senior then in a local intramural league in Windsor CT where i lived.

Hey well done Fuzzy you're doing really well mate, keep it up and one day you'll look as good as me! (well, maybe better...............) Are you enjoying loose fitting clothes, the ease of getting up out of your comfy chair and your knees not creaking as much as they used to? Just imagine how much faster your bike is gonna go once you get down to your ideal weight! It'll be like strapping on a turbo and NOS for no extra bux, woohoo! Keep it up mate, I'm proud of ya! ;D

Yeah terry and Fuzzy I have an old book called Tuning for Speed that has formula in it that gives you speed to weight to frontal area for a given hp, less weight, less frontal area = more speed so you lose 10 lbs and you go faster by the 26 July I'm going to try for 265 and by Christmas 250 so by next spring the 6 and 1/2 will fly. Oh yeah fuzzy I was doing some thing stupid a few days ago I was riding the 650 around he back of my property with out a helmet so I could listen to the engine so I'm putting about over lumps and bumps for a few minutes and said that's enough it's OK, turn around to go back to the house and say to myself time to go up on the pegs and then say hmm a little close to that Maple I'll cut back, bang I'm on my left side, saying what the hell happened, reached over and shut the bike off, picked my self up finally got the bike up, and said #$%* I fell off, any how last year before I started to exercise ( build a house) and lose weight (stairs) I would have just laid there with something broken until my wife came home and found me, and no I didn't bounce like I used to, but at least I could get up and get the bike up. So it's not stupid to get in better shape, it is stupid to take a road bike in the bushes and it is stupid not to walk your ground before you ride it, if you can't see the ground (there was a couple of decomposing Maple branches under the grass that I tried to cut back a cross ).
Terry it almost looks like the insurance settlement is here and I'm going to replenish my library what Flashman book do you recommend as a start?

Ha ha, yeah, I've had a similar problem Bill, last summer I took my newly finished Yoshimura Suzuki GS1000 for a lap around my backyard only to drop the bloody thing when the front tire "washed out" on a freshly laid, still steaming, dog turd, and I managed to then land in the smeared remains!

My mangey old Kelpie, "Sally the wonder dog" thought it an exciting departure from her usual routine watching me trying to push myself out from under 500 pounds of Suzuki, smeared with vile smelling dog sh1t as the 4 into 1 pipe slowly burned it's way thru my right leg, which was bare, as I was only wearing shorts, but she quickly disappeared when I hurled an unintelligeable tirade of verbal abuse at her as I continued to attempt to extricate my stinking, smoking leg from under the bike.

Luckily my youngest son, Tim, hearing the commotion ran out from the house and pulled the bike up vertical whilst his face contorted and his eyes streamed with tears as he vainly attempted to contain his mirth as I hopped around on my one good leg cursing  that damn dog, the bike, my miserable life, etc, until Tim suggested (as diplomatically as he could between poorly suppressed snorts and giggles) that it'd probably be a good idea to jump in the shower to cool my burned leg (and no doubt wash the dog sh1t off..............) as I hobbled off to the bathroom I could hear Tim trying to explain to his mother what had happened in between uncontrollable bursts of laughter. As miserable as I was, I guess it was kinda funny...............

The first Flashman book, just titled "Flashman" is still available from Amazon mate, so that's a good place to start, I gave all my books away years ago, and I'm kinda tempted to buy the whole damn series and start again! I'm currently reading a book about the Battle of Long Tan, Australia's biggest battle in Vietnam written by the hero of the battle, Bob Buick. If you're interested I'll send it to you when I'm done, I think you'll probably enjoy it, it really is an amazing story! Cheers, Terry. ;D
