Motorsicle insurance

I just got insurance for $167 for the year at Geico. This seems pretty inexpensive to me. Anyone get it cheaper elsewhere?

Did Geico start doing their own cycle policies, or is it still passed on to CycleGuard or something?

A lot depends on the state you are in. I think I do around 70 or so a year as well but I know other states cost more.
I think it would be best to compare to others in your state.

It came out to $193.00. Allstate was $263.00. When I was younger I drove like a wacko and got in wrecks, so I'm sure that's the reason. I(t's been a few years since I've had a wreck, but they aren't spread out far enough yet to make my costs go down apparently. Oh well.

It has more to do with cc's and the classification of your bike and your dmv record.

Cruiser, or rocket, or whatnot.

I figured with my old bike it would be real cheap.

I'm with Geico, too.  My policy is $127 per 6 months for three bikes.

Just look at some of the other threads about insurance from guys in Canada or the UK.  What you're paying is really cheap. :)

I have found that with many ins companies, year does not matter. They go by the cc of the engine.
After all, why should I pay as much as a 750 rocket when I have half the power? But that is how they do it in some companies.

I pay about $175/yr through Progressive for 2 bikes, for one bike it would be around $90/yr

Geico always quoted more for motorcycle insurance than Progressive did for me.

Oh, and mine is $106/yr for the 76 750SS, and $98/yr for the 72 350twin

Same coverage as my auto, I think 100/300/100.

I get $80 a year coverage through geico.
'79cb650 heavily modified with a "agreed" value of a tad over 2000 if it ever gets totaled out.
Sad my dyna2000 cost me over 1/5 of the value of my bike.

I keep seeing "$$ per year", but insurance policies are typically for 6 months.  Are these really the yearly amounts or the 6 month policy amounts?

yup, $80 a year here.

A factor to consider, when they ask where you keep the bike... say something safe sounding.

1st year of insureance was 109.
2nd I got it dropped to $80 by telling them that the bike is rode 5miles to and from work, and that work has a camera secured parking lot.
At home I claim to store it in a locked garage every night.

hahaha.... yeah right.

Your state and city you live in will also affect your $$ for insurance.
Here in "happy valley" the motorcycle theft rate is lower than the national average.

You can also use addy's that have a lower crime rate to get a lower premium.
ie, your sister/brother/mom&dads addy to get a slightly lower price.

But I'm not telling you to... that would be un-ethical.... :)

Motorcycles are usually granted policies by the year.

Not in my experience over the past 15 years and a few different companies.  Mine have always been 6 months, just like my cars.

Looks like i'm gonna be looking into Progressive at the end of my current policy! ::)

edit:  Nevermind..  we have USAA for our cars now, so I'll probably go with them.

Ya know I was thinking about switching to USAA for my motorcycle since I already have my car under them...  I wonder if it would be more expensive than Progressive though.

Hm...  Actually it seems that USAA goes through Progressive for motorcycle/ATV insurance.

At least you'd have it all on one bill, and it's still possible you'd get a better rate going through USAA.
