manifold boots
« on: May 17, 2009, 01:02:27 PM »
I've read quite a bit of stuff on this forum about replacing these. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy new. The 'best' price i've seen is David Silver Spares at about $60 + shipping. Any better deals than that?
Anyone considered casting new ones?
I wonder what it would cost to have a rubber casting company make some if we had a big enough pool.
Anyway, for now, is $60 + shipping as good as it gets?

Are the ones you have really chewed up? I boiled mine in water and wintergreen oil, and in addition to making the garage smell like a life saver (better than some of the other smells I've had in there  ;D ) It made them soft again, and your bike smells good when you come to a red light.

Haven't tried that but I did soak them for a week in silicone spray. They came out like new but hardened back up again. They look fine but are hard as a rock. I put armorall on the lips to be able to get them on. Have yours stayed supple for a long time?

Since I did that I haven't had to take them off again (wait, how'd that happen  :o ) so I can't honestly say if they have or not.  Still, for about $8 which is what 2oz of the stuff cost me, it might be worth a shot before dropping the $60 + shipping.
