high idle cam on the choke..?

Yup.  If you have carbs with the fast idle cam on the choke and it's adjusted correctly.

Where the heck is this? I've got a set of PD42A's in front of me and don't see how the mechanism would speed the idle

If it's on there, you should see a cam lobe on the choke assembly arm that opens the throttle slightly when the choke is in the closed position.

It's not in front of me, but I remember seeing the same lobe on the 41B's on the bike. I wondered what that was for.

As long as we're confessing, not only do I IdleFiddle.  I also ChokeKnobKnock AND.... <deep breath> KickStart even though I have a perfectly good starter!

What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I had this idea to attach a rod to the adjustment knob so I could turn it easier... probably a horrible idea! I actually haven't had to mess with it in a while since the mornings have warmed up a bit, kind of found the sweet spot.

Last winter I was at a junk chinese tool flea market thing.  I ended up buying a bendable ratchet extension mad from a spring.  With the correct screw welded to the end, it could stick out the side of the bike for easy access.  I have seen remote idle screws on other bikes.  I think it was a 360T.  They might work.  I just can't remember.

sometimes I'm too lazy to fiddle with my idle and I'll sit at a light, lightly burping the throttle when it slows down too much.... probably makes me look like a tool.

It makes you look like a badass. Just make sure you snarl when you do it though, because if you're smiling or sitting there with some goofy grin, you will look like a tool.

I used to have the same problem as you constantly fiddling. Best way I found was to take her for a nice long ride
to get up to 'full' temp - then set the idle. I have never touched it since. syncing the carbs helped things too.

Sorry.. It's difficult you know. I just had to take one day at a time - If I thought of stopping fiddling as a whole it
seemed overwhelming. I just got through by breaking it into smaller moments 'I will not fiddle today' I had
a relapse in '96 and beat myself up pretty hard - but now it's made me as strong as ever. Hang in there guys!
It can and will get better - I am living proof.

When I stop to fiddle everyone stares! so I give them my "what are you look'n at" glare and they all pretend not to see me....

Thank GOD for this post!! As a relative newcummer to the CB750, I was afraid I was alone in the world of idlefiddlin'. I confess - the gentle warmups in the garage late at night - ever so lightly rotating my knob er, I mean screw, DAMN!! I mean thingy.....Oh what the hell, sign me on for a lifetime membership!

Gents, I hereby confess to my gratuitous idle fiddling, kick starting, and throttle massaging.  Why say no when it feels so good to say yes.

I kickstart, too! Makes me feel like more of a bad ass. I don't idle fiddle.  It was hard enough to get the idle just right, it's either too high or too low.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

Testify, brother.  My starter started grinding gears a bit, so I just kick it all the time.  Somebody on here clued me in to the *throttle open/ignition off/two kicks* priming method, and it kickstarts even in the 30º range.  Plus, like idlefiddling, its another form of badassery.  Maybe.

We welcome you fiddlers and kickers here with open arms.
If you've been lurking on the thread, and haven't posted the fact that you're an IdleFiddler or a a KickStarter, don't be afraid, were all friends here.

go ahead, it'll be liberating to admit to it.
