So I've spent the few couple of days wrenching in the garage. I've installed new bars, MikesXS clubman style, bar-end mirrors, new gauge faces (although tach needle now jumps around... bought it off eBay and should have checked it before the conversion) Meh bought a new one to convert. I've done a complete tune up. Well, almost complete. Can't loosen the nut on the timing chain adjuster without turning the screw. Nevertheless, it's running pretty smooooth and I had a great ride today. In my excitement, here are some pics! Feels great when it all comes together.

Anybody else been wrenching this week?

Your bike looks great! Nice job ;)
To answer your question

Yeah!  I figured I would look at the old CM185 in the corner of the garage.
Hard start and had such a big backfire I blew out the gen cover gasket and started spewing oil on the garage floor ::)

Today bought new plugs, ordered a new gasket.  I have already cleaned out carbs :P
Need to check timing.   Sounded like a shot gun, or at least what I think a shotgun would sound like ;)

836 Tracy:
Hung her up on the beam again and did a re and re on both front brake calipers, it was rubbing a smidge on the right side. Sanded it down ever so slightly and now the wheel spins a lot better ;D
Rebuilt the M/C. They work pretty good now ;D
Disconnected the headlight to see if that will help with charging. I am getting 14.8 - 15.2 now at 4000 rpm , but it's still is not just right. Dead bat from time to time. Will check neg term on light harness to neg on Bat tomorrow to see if it's hooped somewhere?
Re and Re  Rear-Set brake to get a better angle for emergency stops.
Removed throttle lock that rotated to the front and almost made me rear end a car last weekend >:(

Oh and I replaced that missing break arm bolt I lost on the 78K

Yup.............that was my week ;D ;D ;D

Your all welcome to drop in any day, this seems to be what I do now :o

I have but one word to describe your bike... "crisp".  Ok, I have more words... very very nice.

And no, you can't see a pic of mine (right now).  I feel ashamed.  ;)

I'm waiting on brake parts to arrive in the mail before I get back at it.  I wish I knew someone around with a bead roller to make some headlight brackets.  Anyone in Indiana? :)

Thanks for the compliments. It's still a work in progress, but as long as it is a rideable one, I'm a happy camper. I have to admit I got addicted to this forum. Awesome people, great advice, couldn't do it without youz guys.

Seaweb11.... dude that's a pretty extensive list! Do you sleep in the garage? :D All you guys doing complete tear-downs, my hat is off to you guys. It will be SO worth it in the end. I have an extra 550F motor I plan to rebuild over the next winter and maybe build myself a nice custom cafe, keeping this bike closer to stock.

The agenda for today, fresh oil, AND a little present came to me in the mail yesterday... a Dyna S ignition! Then need to make friends with someone with a carb tune gauge, and am ready for the long weekend!

Fuzzybutt... gotta ease up on them fumes bro! :D

wrenchmuch! A fellow Oakvillite? WHAT? No way... Where abouts are you?

I did my 3rd oil change this year, and dropped my rev limiter to 8800 rpm.
Tempted to put my cb750 carbs back on my 650 this weekend as well.
I REALLY miss that choke lever!

All in the name of better MPG.(but I wanna still have fun though!)
32mm CV carbs VS 28mm mechanical piston carbs.....
hrmm.... I might just go back.
It's not like I have a job or anything to get in the way of this project, and I need something to do while waiting for my rim.

this week, replaced the fuel line (again) searching for a configuration that doesn't leak, painted the ends of the new exhaust pipes, finished sealing up the leaky valve adjustment covers, gave 'er a good cleaning and JBwelded my floppy mirror into place...

I cut my Mac baffle(on my 350f) in half and wrapped what was left with stainless steel scrubbies to stop the violent metal ringing vibration sound at 5k. Did a plug chop and i Love the new sound.Im so pleased with the sound I might get 80 jets for the carbs to see about some more power.?? At least it sounds fast! ;D

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

I replaced the ancient, deteriorated cracked leaking oil vent line on the bike (the one between the back/bottom of the cast and the oil tank...the one that was spewing oil all over my rear tire, yup that one). Did it without removing the tank or battery...sorta like doing brain surgery thru someones backside.

Just yesterday pulled my front forks and done new seals, looks like this was their 30th anniversary in there. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Not that it is 100% along the lines of the thread....

But this week on a buddy's KZ1000 I have:
put on new tires
fixed the bent clutch and brake lever
installed new brake pads all around
530 chain and gear conversion from whatever it was running(630?)
new fork seals and oil
iridium spark plugs
buttoned up the carbs
removed the 140 rear tire to fit a 130/90/16 that doesn't rub the swingarm(haha, thats fun, at least the dealership was cool and didn't charge anything for the tire swap!),
re-taped the wiring harness(after removing tons of ill done wiring connections)
put on a new blinker unit
replaced 2 bulbs(turn signals)
new exhaust gaskets
changed the oil
new oil filter
new pods
new fuel line
new fuel filter

At least I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now.
Clean the tank out(rusty a bit), put the headlight back in, shifter lever needs put back on.
A few cotter pins here and there.
Then the usual "tune up" stuff after doing a major overhaul.(and sitting 8+ years)

Really hoping I don't get pulled over on the first few test runs, it has no plates yet....

All that (and then a few things I have forgotten) for $100.
My buddy is getting his money worth and then some IMO.
