3rd. kick & varroooom!
« on: November 01, 2005, 04:47:51 PM »
Just finished rebuilding the rack of carbs for my '76 550 project.  Had to mount them and see if it would fire.
Now keep in mind that it has not run since 1982.  Some fresh gas, choke on, 1st kick...no, 2nd. kick, little cough, 3rd. stab, varrooom.  Sounds great!!  ;D  although it will need new silencers.  The carbs, even at rough bench adjustment gives a fairly decent idle.  I'm very happy!  What a motivating factor to hear it run before the full restoration begins.

Cool!  Yeah it feels good huh?  Are you doing a restoration to original or just whatever suits your fancy?  If your going original, that makes paint choice pretty easy..Brown, Brown or.. Brown.  Always wondered why that was the only color they offered in 76...Brown.  Hopefully by the time my 75 needs restored Ill have the money to make it as original as possible, I can see that getting damned expensive!  Even if I have the money I dont think Id be willing to part with the bones neccesary for NOS pipes...if I can find em  :-\.

Kool. Vroom vroom. What are you doing for a restoration?

It is sometimes amazing how these bikes hold up, non?
Good luck with it. My 1974 starts but still runs rough.

I plan to remove engine from frame, detail the engine by paint and polish, blast the frame, swing arm and other black parts and powder coat them, new modern rubber, replace turn signals with smaller versions, replace stock seat with a "Corbin" type with intregal brake light, replace high-rise handle bars with lower type, polish up both hubs rims & spokes, repair ding on tank, paint tank and side covers a dark and light green combination, apply stock tank decals and side cover emblems, re-build brakes and give a tune up.
Or.....I may restore to original look, however, I'm sorry, but I can't revert to the original candy green/brown paint scheme.
The bike has 8,000 milkes on the clock (original) so I don't think that I will crack open the top and bottom at this time.
Wish me luck!

just fired my cb750 last weekend. pretty much same scenario, except I dropped in a new battery and pressed the magic button. The plate on mine is 1983, so I am guessing it has been an easy 20+ yrs since is has ran.

After a little fine tuning and some time running, well I just had to take for a ride. It was begging me, how can you resist :D
