same here.......if I had more money I would put new rings on for sure, but money is tight (divorce) and there is no blowby on the pistons....bad practice to put old rings back in,I know....but this is recession.... ;)
Marti, I want you to know, I like you an awful lot, but guys have said far less and left wearing their drinks on their shirts.

You might consider new rings while your in that deep (i did)

If I had my way, I'd replace most of what wears out, but unfortunately, I'm getting pretty close to my budget limit, so I gotta try and save where I can. I'll inspect the pistons for blowby and the cylinders and make a decision from there. I really need to find a money tree  ;D

Brandon

I hear ya bout the budget dept i was in the same boat money wise but the benefits made me delay the project to save the cash for the rings plus it was a great learning experience and wasn't all that bad the hardest part was getting the carbon off the piston tops.

I've read that if you aren't doing anything to the cylinders you can get away with using the old rings. Guess I could always see what new rings would cost, but I'm kinda at the hold and see what MUST be replaced as I tear into it. If I luck out and everything is cherry (haha, yeah right) then I'll replace stuff I want to, otherwise safety and necessity dictates what gets changed.

Manjisann, you would be surprised how many cb650's i've opened up with 30,000+ miles on them that were within specs before needing bored bigger or anything.
Let alone how many of those I have stuffed the stocker pistons and rings back into them.

If anything mabey use a ball hone to re-establish your cross hatch.

Soos, if I ball hone my cylinder, wouldn't I need to replace the rings?  I'm hoping I won't need to.

I'm all for a ride, as soon as I get my baby running  ;D

the head gasket from my athena kit had been made backwards, had to dremmel the oil restricter holes to fit then found that the fire bands on the gasket overlapped the bores, so it's hanging in the garage waiting for something to do

You don't take them at the same time, that's just dangerous! (but if you had to, it did have a side car option  ;) )
