Question for Motorcycle Buyers
« on: May 16, 2009, 11:25:33 AM »
Hey peoples,

Got a question for you.

I hate trying to find #$%* on craigslist, and can't stand ebay.

For buying and selling motorcycles and motorcycle parts, how does this setup sound to you for narrowing down your searches?

Region > State > Brand > Era > Model

Or what about

Region > State > Brand > Era > Style > Model

?

Is that too much? I mean, what if you had to go through the entire thing there to post an ad, but could search at any level, narrowing down the search as much as you like?

I'm starting a (free) motorcycle classifieds service, and would love some input on your preferences for both posting, and searching, ads.

What about:
Region > State > Brand > Era > Model > Style
or
Region > State > Brand > Year > Model > Style
as an alternate search.
Just suggestions. They both seem relevant to me.

Sounds good to me. If it helps me find a bike easier I always like that.

Model would denote style, more often than not. For instance, a 750k is a 'standard'. So I think going style > model works better, because then you could go for style first, that way if osmeone is looking for a 'cruiser', all models of cruisers will be shown. But I could be wrong, need to think about that.

Year is too specific, so I think classic, vintage, whatever, is narrow enough. But let me ask you a question, because i could do it by year.. would you be interested in only searching for 1975 cb550's?
The search function WILL allow for putting in specific dates, but the categories allow youto narrow down WHAT your specific search will look in...

Gerhed turned into either a zombie or a pirate!!!

I like the idea of being able to search by style, and searching by era makes more sense.  I want to be able to find all of the CBs from all the years, not just one specific year.

I think style is a good idea, but the problem is that it relies on the user posting the ad to be accurate in their labeling.  If the options are few (cruiser, standard, sport, offroad/dual use) and you make the user select only one, then it will probably work.

I'd like to see a search option for searching by Make as well.  Sometimes I just want to see all the BMWs for sale, you know?

Being able to search by a range of years would be good as well.

Let's see the prototype site!

I went with those because I might want a:
 '70's CB bobber
or a
'77 CB Caferacer

That's just my logic. Your's would work fine too. Just trying to get my help on  :)

I don't want to 'advertise' it here on the boards. If you'd like to see it, pm me, and I'll pm you the address.

Borkunit, [make] will be in the categories for sure.

Oh yeah, also considering having completely different tabs and classifieds for bike parts, that way, when you are looking for a range of bike,s you dont get classifieds for 430 #$%*ing bike parts that fall into the same region>era>make range. Yah?

Whatever you come up with, I'll use it!

I'm just weeks away from finishing Hondaman Special #1, CB750K3.
I'm considering making HS#2 as a cafe', using some of the great handling improvement ideas from McRider and his Phaedrus project. This will be finished in the summertime, I think (also CB750K3).

...then I have 2 more on the back burner.. ;).
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Blood is thicker than water, but motor oil is thicker yet...so, don't mess with my SOHC4, or I might have to hurt you.
