I came to this cross roads about 8 months ago. The blue '07 CBR 600RR in my avatar is just a fun, fond memory. The cool thing is I don't regret it at all. I can always pick up another "latest greatest" bike, but a CB is forever. I've been amazed at the number of guys who stop me when I take my bike out. They all want to re-live their memories of the bikes they or their dad or brother had. I road my '72 to a local restaurant last night and had 5 different guys stop me to talk about the CB. One even got up from his dinner and met me before I could get in the door to ask if I was willing to sell it. Crazy. The best thing is I was a complete noob when I bought the '72. I had been riding the CBR for about 6 months but felt like a poser because I knew nothing about bikes really. So I decided to get an "old bike" to teach myself. I picked up the gold K2, non running, from a guy and I was nervous as could be. I was afraid I'd been suckered. Then as time went on, I realized what I had. I found this site and got it running, then tuned. I feel like a million dollars when I ride it, which is a nice replacement for the neck/back/nut pain of riding the CBR. Don't get me wrong, I love CBR's and will probably buy another, but the CB is here to stay.
