Ok guys and gals, I got a question for you bright lights out there, I have to preface it with an explanation,
so here goes, my wife works in the literacy field in Ontario and in the Aboriginal stream and is giving a talk to a group of native librarians on how to pull reluctant readers into the librarys and as you would expect there is not a lot of material out there for reluctant readers even less so for Aboriginals, so do any of you know of studies on the subject, (doesn't make any difference what language it's in as long as there is an english translation) successful programs that happened (I don't care which country) any stories that would appeal to people that don't read much, particularly of native or aboriginal hero's, my thoughts are if you can see one of your one striving and succeeding or least striving and failing with grace it's a lot more interesting than a book on "string theory" and might drag them in to see what else is out there. The tie in on this is to give them a chance at better jobs and better able find their place in the universe or at least allow them to take the part of the universe that they want. This is of course my idea not hers, what she's come up with is to get the librarians working amongst themselves to create what is needed, my thought is sometimes you can't see the tree in the forest you are looking for until some one with a different perspective points out the tree. Thanks for your indulgence
