License mounting
« on: May 16, 2009, 05:19:31 PM »
Anyone know if there is a side mount license holder that will fit a '77 750k?  Like on the swingarm or axle or such.  I'm afraid to mount it under my cafe tail section as it looks to be a bit close to the tire.

Just about to do the same thing. I am considering just making a little bracket that mounts to the top nut of the rear shock.

i made my tag mount  out of some 1/8" aluminum plate. it's on the fender but theres no reason at all you couldnt do one for a sidemount the same way. i never even had to fire up my bandsaw to cut the aluminum, i just used an air cutoff wheel. give me an hour or so and i'll take some pics. to much lightning and heavy rain right now

Don't I friggin' wish!!!

I figured I would fab up a mount (on the tail section) before finishing painting in case I used steel.  But I decided there wasn't enough clearance, so I decided to ask the question while I was at it.

I've got the electrical just about sorted out.  I'm installing the footpegs and shifter/brake etc.  I still have to rebuild the carbs, finish painting the body parts and paint the battery box (after I start it and make sure all the new electrical aftermarket parts work).

Thanks for the ideas everyone.  Pics would be super helpful.  How much should I worry about having a plate light?  Since I won't be mounting it under the tail section.  I can always rig something to keep the cops from hassling me I suppose.  Maybe those led plate bolts would be the solution.  Something like this:

Not sure of the law over there but to pass and obtain an MOT roadworthy certificate in the UK it must have a plate light.
I bought a nice aluminium one from ebay:

bit pricey at $30 -

but these are also available on ebay for circa $20:

You will probablt be able to pick something up cheaper your side of the pond or just as easily fab a simple
mount a wire a few cheap LED's in series. With all that being said - i actually quite like the ones you posted.

I decided to try my original plan.  Here are some pics:

Do you guys think I need to worry about the plate hitting the tire?

yes, not only because of the suspension compressing but the tires grow as you go faster.
