honda has just gone stupidly overboard
« on: May 16, 2009, 08:48:45 PM »
i just saw the commercial for the Fury. they have lost the last little bit of respect i had for them, talk about pandering to the overdone, occ chopper crowd. bet ed "big daddy" roth is spinning in his grave too for using drawings eerily like his.

I saw Cycle World touting it as the next big thing a few months ago...

Kinda shameful if you ask me.

It was reviewed in this month's cycle world. The guy said it was actually a comfortable ride (not what he expected), but noted it should actually be called the "furby" and is what you would expect if "Disneyland had an Easy Rider Experience" ride. So perhaps not a particularly bad bike, but man is that thing ugly. Wonder how they'll sell...

well with so many people wanting a chopper without the trouble. they'll sell and theyre cheaper than a harley or victory.

I suppose they'll bank off the American Chopper and Jesse James crowd who have 13 grand to throw on a bike.

I just read its also liquid cooled. Is that normal for those custom choppers?

Got a link to the commercial?  All I could find is a little kid getting a tat and someone tagging a wall with graffiti.

I'm guessing this is it.

Actually, all that lightning/vine-growing/wolves-howling/black sky and darkness following that happened on that commercial happened to me every time I got on my cb650. It was fun at first but it got tiring when everyone in the grocery store thinks you're one of the four horsemen. I just wanted to pick up some bread! Darn you Honda!!

Yes, I think you are correct, they are targeting the "stupid" demographic group. It is good bussines plan, as they are quite numerous. I guess you will not "Meet the nicest people on Honda" any more.

If what you posted was the correct commercial I'm surprised that such a unimaginative pos was aired on national tv. It looked like a blatant rip off of an occ intro or some crap. They will probably sell an ass ton of those things since they are marketing to the ignorant cattle. I hate!

This is completely counter to the "You Meet the Nicest People on a Honda" campaign that was running when our bikes first came out. In those days people who rode bikes were considered trash and uncouth. Today with the OCC and Harley making uncoth cool, this is what you get.

behind excessive hype one can expect absence of substance.

"you meet the biggest wannabes on a Honda" another winner!

"Today with the OCC and Harley making uncoth cool, this is what you get" +1

that's a good question jc. i don't think i ever heard anything definitive on that either way. the home market may get it, just to spite the rest of us if nothing else.

great minds think alike! think what they could do with a nostalgic bike like the 1100f or even better a 750k0 lookalike. triumph has done good with the classic series of motorcycles.

the guy at a bike show last year said they scrapped the 919 cause it wouldn't sell
guess they figure the 1100 and 750 wouldn't sell either
