Output shaft seal R&R
« on: May 18, 2009, 06:05:41 AM »
So, how bad is it to R&R the output shaft seal with the engine still in the frame?  I was gonna put it off until this winter when I pull the engine for some other stuff (topend work, oil pump, etc) but it's leaking too badly for that.  I've started having to carry oil with me.  Anyone got any interesting tips/tricks/tools for doing this with the engine in frame?

Although I've never changed it without the cases split I quess if you removed the rib on the replacement seal you could re & re in a temporary pinch, especially if it's leaking badly. Not what Honda intended, but you can be the trail-blazer!

Getting the old one out with that locating rib in place will take some finesse. Clean the area really well first.
