« on: November 02, 2005, 05:49:34 PM »

Almost any bike can do a wheelie if you know how.  I imagine on my 550 Id have to pull in the clutch, rev the #$%* out of it, drop the clutch and give her a good yank on the bars...in other words tear the thing up.  My GS1100 on the other hand...   If a bike wont do a wheelie with throttle alone I wouldnt try it.  If you really wanna do wheelies, get a crotch rocket and mark yes on your licence for organ doner  ;)  Later.

Serge,
or you could buy an old Kawasaki triple. Any one of them wheelie real easy.

On a cb750? I don't think so. The frame would probably bend on the way back down. ::)

I've never done one on any of my CB750's, my old Kawa Z1 900 would easily and my Suzuki GS1000S will do 'em all day but it's murder on the front forks etc. I knew a guy who could do a wheelie on any bike, but he was a freak, he reckoned he learned on a CB750. I'm hoping that my racer project will hoist the front wheel under power, I guess I'll have to wait and see! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Can you imagine the engine scream before dropping the clutch :o
No thanks, I spent to much time rebuilding it to start with.

Yeah..I always wondered about the difference between my 75 750 K and the Kawi's I used to have(74' 900 Z1& 77'1000 LTD). Both of those Kawi's would come up readily or you could just smoke the tire(done that a few times!) The Honda on the other hand doesn't want to act that way so I don't push my luck trying.I wouldn't mind having either one of the Z bikes back but I made my mind up long ago about the Honda....It's a keeper!!

Thanks for the replies!  I tried to take front wheel of the ground in the second gear with the clutch dumping, but I could not. Prob I did not get rpm high enough...  I thought these bikes were hottest Sportbikes at the time  what makes me wonder...

Japbikemike, I could not find that picture on the Carpy's website  http://www.cb750cafe.com/carpy.php

BTW, MetalHead, I do have a "donor" sticker on my license  ;D.  Statistics shows though that going from 4 wheels to 2 is much more dangerous than from 2 to 1 ;)

The cb 750 wheelie pic on Carpy's site is on the Reader's Cafe page at the bottom.  When you hit it, it's a link to more pic's.

it actually takes a lot a practice to ride wheelies. I can do them at speed, and do the slow 5 to 10 mph unicycling it. Hopefully one has a lot of seat time and has the mastering skills of two wheels before starting the stunt riding.

I have done it on a lot of the bikes I have owned. But I like to have the power to be able to loft the front end at will instead of yanking and bouncing it off the ground.

One word of warning!!!! Just a reminder, you can be seriously injured by doing a simple stunt on a bike.

I have been a victom of several nasty crashes from stunt riding and racing and be the first one to tell you it can maim you for life. Please think before you do.

In 1973 a friend with a K2 put the Yoshimura 812 kit with the milder of the wild cams Pops had then with headwork, smoothbore carbs and the Yoshimura open exhaust. It spent more time on the rear wheel than on both.
I put the same 812 kit in mine with the same cam, but no head work, rejetted carbs and the stock pipes with the baffles out and it was only marginally faster than stock.

My first bike was a 76 CB750, I rode around with a budy on his new (or newish) 500 Interceptor.  He was popping wheelies all the time so I tried it.  As reported by others, throttle snap alone won't do it.  One evening, as we rode through a McDonalds parking lot being tough motorcycle riding teenagers doing our level best to attract the attentions of the girls, I decided it was time.  I was coasting slowly, I pulled in the clutch, tached it up, and dumped the clutch.

I wheelied.

It was the lamest wheelie in history, but the front wheel was off the gound by a good 6" for at least 2-3 feet.

Did a wheelie one time. Wasn't on purpose. Scared the hell out of me.

I dont know about wheelies on a 750???? I can say that I can get the front tire to come up when I am abusing it. Its not the lack of power in this bike. It is the fact that a great deal of teh weight is forward on these bikes.

I had a crazy little Kawasaki 250 that went like mad. I beat the hell out of that bike constantly. Wheelies???? YESERIE It did wheelies easier than anything you could think of. It was like a crazy stunt bike. A little bar on the back and you could park it straight up in the air. Whats more is that they were very controlable. It was almost too easy.

The pic on Carpy's site was a '75 (or '76) K model 750 with an 836 Kit.
