Anyone know when they stopped using them.

Also how much do they usually sell for?

My 5/70 build is not a wrinkle tank. As you're probably aware, my bike has had a few parts replaced along the way but I'd guess the tank is original.

I know someone who sold a rusty one for $500.

My KO has a build date of 1/70 and no wrinkle tank. This is the original tank on this bike too. The bike does have the recessed ignition and black kill switch.

I am sure the tank on my UK K0 (frame 101038*)imported into UK during January 1970 is original and is not a 'wrinke' tank, although the bike has double cut front guard/recessed ign. switch and black kill button. The tank does have the tank badges with dimples on the outside of the lettering and chrome trim with no black lines. hope this helps -Ash

i THINK that the wrinkle tank is an early-mid 69 occurence.

Are you sure? The wrinkles are clearly visible through the fuel fill opening? I ask, because I didn't think they used them that late in production.

I am wondering if when the new dies arrived and went to work, if there was tanks in paint, that did not go out in order of age, that would mean at times, they were using both..

I have another question, does anyone know how long they used the diecast cap?

I managed to find a couple of them, but they were not all identical, so it seems they may have had them on other models?.. not sure..

Here's those pics. I bought the bike in '75 from a friend who was the original owner so I know the tank is original.

Interesting, mine is an 11/69 build date also, but I know the tank is not original so I had no clue as to how long the wrinkles were produced. Good to know.

That one just shown, looks like it has the steel gas cap.

I am thinking there is a possiblity, that on some days, both types of tank were coming off the line., and a good chance it relates to tank color.

That cap is a replacement but the original was not a diecast.

My 10/69 K0 has diecast cap - BTW Yamiya sells them as 'ANTIMON' whatever that means? Again mega expensive from Yamiya CW steel one. Anyone had one re-chromed. Mine was pitted slightly so I polished it and it looks really good but suppose it should be chromed for originality.

Yes, I had mine chromed on my KO & K1. Turned out real nice. Better than the Honda chrome for sure.
