Carb question..where does this hole go?
« on: May 19, 2009, 01:36:03 PM »
Just a question I was hoping someone could answer for me.  These are carbs off an 81'  CB650 Custom. Thanks guys!
There's a reason fuel injection is around...but I would sure miss swearing for hours on end if I didn't own a few bikes with carbs.

Can you spray some carb cleaner in there and see where it comes out? In some cases, identical castings were used for different carbs, and then each carb is individually machined based on its position in the lineup (#1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) so sometimes you'll get what appears to be a hole but isn't used on that particular carb.

I tried to clean it out and didn't get anywhere.  But I would assume that it has to go somewhere.  I'm just thinking in terms of physics (which my thoughts could be flawed).  That hole that has brass is free and clear and gas has been coming up that...if its a vent of some sort, there would be NO other place for it to go inside its little space that gets covered up by a gasket piece. Which goes against all thought.  So I would assume that the hole that I am in  question of should go SOMEWHERE, I was just hoping someone knew where or what it is for.  I'll keep working at it. Thanks for the info though Laminar, I noticed that some of the carbs had things plugged up because of the spots they were in.
