Congrats.  After your post a few weeks ago, I was wondering what you had decided to do.  Glad to hear that you're going through with it.

Safe travels!

Good luck on your CC journey, I've done it twice and it's an amazing trip. Maybe I'll see you riding around the Portland area when you get back.

Safe travels.

Ride On Guys,

Good luck with everything!  Enjoy the open road.  Try to keep us posted.  Ride Safe......... And Be Happy.......

My longest trip was only 1,400 miles....... I'd love to do what you are doing.  My sons are up in Portland, Oregon........ I'm in Phoenix..... my boys want me to come up there this summer...... I'm thinkin' on it...... ;) still wouldn't be like a real cross country one..... maybe someday!

Does anyone know...Did Torrinh say if they were going to check in from time to time?  It'd be really nice to hear of their progress, or lend a hand if needed.

If Albany gives us the new 13 week unemployment extension I think I'm going to do the same trip, but in reverse: Brooklyn->San Francisco. Of course, I need to get my bike running to do this...

First, I want to thank everyone for their support and encouragement.
Sadly, we canceled our trip. After riding down to Grass Valley on Sunday, after a week of finals, family, graduation ceremony, and moving out of and cleaning my apartment, I was beat to hell. My brother and I were going to ride over 500 miles a day for six days to reach Portland, ME. When we left Arcata we thought this was doable, but after riding 6+ hours and covering 330 miles in 100+ degree heat, we both were exhausted to say the least. For both of us, that was our longest ride to date and my brother has only had his license since May 4th. We both agreed that the trip should be something enjoyable, and that we should take two weeks, not six days, to do it. We were rushing back because of our jobs that we have lined up, and need to get back for for a number of reasons. I know that work should wait, but I'm in debt from school  Needless to say, friends and family were all relieved to find that we wouldn't be trying a break-neck pace.
I'm shipping the ol'girls home tomorrow out of Sacramento for about $981. I was going to try and sell the GPZ and use that money to finance the shipping of the Honda and my plane ticket home, but I realized I'd mailed my titles for both bikes home and couldn't get to them for at least another 6 days. I'm sure any of you in California know the hassle with dealing with the CA DMV with no title. I also didn't want to ask my family or friends to sell the bike for me. Again, a huge pain.
Anyway, thank you again for the support and encouragement, and to those who offered a place to crash and cold beer.
My brother and I are young, the bikes run well, and it's been too damn hot in in the desert too early if you ask me.
We'll see you around New England!!

Decisions like that are what keep you riding into old age.  There will be other opportunities.

The local membership will likely be up for a few rides this season, will you be up for some group rides?

I don't blame you torrinh... riding in desert heat is simply not fun and hard on bikes.

I'm glad to see you guys came to your senses on the timing issue... its fast paced/long rides like that, that have a tendency to cause wrecks and riding mistakes from fatigue.

enjoy your summer job.   ;)
